No, Mike Marshall was not flying the plane. This is how it always gets started here on HR! Mike whould have brought the plane back to the airport and finished the beverage service before landing.

Great Job crew of Flight 1549! You are first class and all heros in my book.

there is a link on msnbc on HOW they train for these types of calamity's.
All I know is the next time I fly. I hope the pilots of this jet, are flying the one I am on. They have proven to be very cool under pressure. If we do not have anything else to be thankful for, we can sure be thankful for the outcome of this!

I have 10,000+ hours in P-3's as a radar/electronic systems operator. P-3's spend most of their time over open ocean and we spend alot of time doing ditching drills.

But a ditch is one of those things that can only be learned by doing it. You cant learn it in a trainer. Which just makes what this crew accomplished that much more amazing to me.

Were gonna lose these highly trained and experienced Vietnam era pilots soon and the entire air transportation system will suffer.

Anyways, that pilot will never have to buy another drink in his entire life.

Many congratulations to the efforts of the entire crew on this accomplishment.

Not only was that guy a fighter pilot, he is a crash psychology consultant/expert and glider pilot. One of the few people in the world you'd actually want to try to pull it off.

Years agao, Huhes aircraft was working on disconnects for the engines so they would break off the wings and drop so the plane would not cartwheel in this situation.

imagine if this guy had the wrong attitude to the water heading in what would have occured?

                  A miracle caught on video.

Video of US Airways descent into Hudson River released.
Looks like the plane comes in at about 2:00 into the video. (no sound)

Add: Hey, since everybody is OK...would it be proper to make jokes about lost luggage?

                    Incredible

According to the time stamp on the video:

The plane hits the water at 3:31.02.

At 3:31.43, people can already be seen standing on the wings.

At 3:32.50, a ferry is seen responding.

At 3:35.02, the ferry reaches the plane.

That's only four minutes from the time of impact to the time the first-responder was on-scene and able to help the passengers. Incredible. As the ferry approaches, watch how fast that plane is drifting down river, almost out of camera frame.

What a pilot! He must have nerves of steel.

I sat in awe as I watched the video! Just then, the phone rang and it was a pilot friend of mine asking if I had the news on. This friend flew military jets and spent time in Vietnam, and Iraq. He was in awe too and he's a pilot!

As I watched and listened, I realized I was seeing heroes in action! Many heroes were present on that plane. If you haven't heard the explanation of the word "hero" it is: An every day person doing what they do, then they are put in an extrodinary situation requiring unimaginable courage, staring certain death in the face, acting calmly, reassuring those around them to do the impossible to save lives. Not just the captain, but the entire flight crew and even the passengers deserve this acknowledgment as being heroes! This made me look at myself, I asked if I could perform as heroic as those brave men, women and even the children aboardthat flight, sadly, I'm afraid that I must answer no. I do pray that if I should ever be placed in a situation that requires a calm head, open heart and courage undescribable, the Lord will reassure me that I too am capable. I know me and me by meself is not capable of such!

As for me, this is one event that will not be soon forgotten! For the survivers of this flight, they really deserve our honor and respect!
