  • Little Help?

Hello, A few years ago IBM closed a factory here in western NY and I bought some of there tools so I could make cool stuff and support my boatracing habbit. I have the milling part figured out but the machine has a tool/attachment hanging off of the other end that I am having some trouble finding info on I've heard it refered to as a vertical shaper... a slotter...and or a broach. I would love to figure out what it is for and what tools are supposed to go in it. Any help or info is appreciated...It jumps up and down...Because of the unique nature of it's motion my wife has made a few sugestions that I'm sure it was not intended for. But I have been wrong before. any info would be great.

    Thanks
    Sonny

I's used for inturnel and xturnel key seats. If you use it take very light cuts.

      Wife is right on

Sonny, your wife is right on this one!

I would use a Lathe Tool bit in the holder. The tool is ground to the shape of the internal or external slot that is being cut.

Thanks guys, I've seen a few shapers with what they call a clapper box that actually holds a rocker style tool post. A broach has a round collett at the top and a long cutter with teeth on it and these dont fit. A slotter holds some type of round tool. The tool holder on this thing really has me stumpt.
