To those who know me, you know it's hard for me to be too serious about anything except God, family and friendships. I have an illness that I'm finally on the downhill side of (I hope) I want to share with all of you how easy this is to get and how dangerous it can be! Hantavirus cannot be spread person to person, it's the only flu-virus that can't, it is only found in rat and mice crap and it can be anywhere! It can then become dust so when you swep an area up, you breath it in and you got it!
20 months ago, I got this same thing, but not to the degree I got it this time. It was about 8 weeks ago, I went to the barn to play with the wolfdog. As I was rolling around the old carpet, pulling the towel from his teeth, he went to playfully attack me, I buried my face down in the rug and something didn't quite smell right, it smelled like piss. I know this couldn't be from cloud, coz he's housebroke. A few days later, I went down to get some firewood from the room just next to where cloud lives, I reached up to get a wide, flat piece, not knowning the rats were using this to crap on, I pulled it down and got a face, nose an mouth full of rat turds. Three days later, I was in big trouble! Hantavirus can hit you like a bad head and/or chest cold in it's mildest form, it can also kill you! The first time I got it, 20 months ago, it was the most painful chest congestion I'd ever had, this was a cakewalk! This time, I had such severe congestion that I could cough up pints of mucous at a time, coughing continually. I was also told to drink as much water as possible tokeep the mucous from coagulating, if it does this, then the vitim then will drown in their own mucous, THIS IS HOW IT KILLS YOU! For two days, it was very bloody mucous. Then, once you start to feel better, don't do anything for several more days! I didn't pay attention, I thought I was feeling good enough to help a friend with some maple trees, to fall them for firewood, halfway into the day, it came back, only worse! For the next two weeks, it was the same thing, losta coughing, lotsa mucous, drinking lotsa water! Only this time, with a very high fever for a couple of days. The last few days have been very good, so I think I'm on the downhill side of this crap (I hope) The reason I share this is to hopefully keep everyone from having to deal with this, I mean I don't want my worst enemy to have to go through this!
In closing, I believe all animals have a right to live, so I let the rats have the barn area, NOT NO MORE! If you see a rat, please trap it and probably 20 to 30 more out! If you see mice, GET RID OF THEM! I would see the dog with a couple of rats a week that he killed, but now, between the traps and his efforts, we have killed 67 of them! Haven't trapped any for almost a week, so hopefully they are gone!
I have many reasons to be thankful this thanksgiving, most are on this site! I wish you all a very happy and fulfilling thanksgiving and may our gracious Lord bless you all!
