  • Julie Seaman Passes Away

    To all boat racers:

It is with great sorrow that I send this about the passing of a beloved friend Julie Seaman. I received a call last night from her daughter Carolyn. She passed away the evening before.

All of us that knew her, knew her as a great competitor and person. She raced boats most of her life and also had the fortitude to finish college and become an attorney. She worked as a Public Defender for Fresno California.

I will miss the phone calls that went late into the night talking about boat racing and everything else.

Carolyn did not have too many details last night. More will be posted when we can.

    With Great Sorrow.

I was truly saddened to read the news. "aunt" Julie was a fixture in the pits throughout my childhood. My memories of her are endless and I will never forget her. My heart goes out to her family and all those that that spent so much time with her at the lake and in the shops and at club meetings. We will all miss you Julie.

          Unbelievable!

I was able to communicate with Julie once again thru this website and I hoped to see her again since I remembered her well while going up as a kid in this sport. My heart goes out to her family. She was one of the great ladies of our sport.

This is a huge loss especially for those of us in Stock Outboard who have been around a long time and know its history. Juli Seaman will always have a place in the history books and in our hearts.

My deepest sympathy to her family. I know she was loved throughout the country.

I'm very sorry to hear of Juli Seaman passing. She was my friend and was very supportive with my racing comeback in 2006. I will always remember us talking and emailing about races and results etc. One time I remember her correcting me, "It's Juli, No "E" at the end!", you can bet I always got it right after that.

                  A Single Photo

I never had the pleasure of meeting Juli and except for one week in the summer of 1974, I didn't pay much attention to her boat racing career since we usually raced on opposite coasts.

But when she started posting here on Hydroracer, I remembered exactly who she was because of a single photo.

                    Sad News About Juli Seaman

My memory may have left me, but I think Juli was the first WOMAN to ever win an APBA A Stock Hydro National Championships...I think it was at the second Wakefiled, Michigan Nationals...

The last time I saw Julie I bought three props off her at a Bakersfield race...KG-4 wheels worked well on JSH before the univeral propeller rule came to be...

I had heard she was considering a move to OHIO where her dad, Wilson Seaman, had raced for many years....

I don't have any information to add, but am doing some homework....This is SAD NEWS in deed...

                      Your Correct

Juli won the A hydro title in Wakefield in 1982. I will never forget it because my father and I were with her in the lobby of the hotel when she heard. We were getting ready for the banquet when someone came from inspection to tell her that, due to DQ's she was bumped into first. I will allways remember her reaction, a strange blend of disbelief and elation.

                          Condolences................

Carolyn(Juli's daughter) called me while Val and i were at the UIM Worlds this past weekend in Florida. Juli was a dear friend since the late 70's!! She always kept in touch with the boat racing community and wanted to race again someday.

As Ron Hill stated she was indeed the first woman to win ASH, the only other lady to do it was Jean Mckay Schwartz!!

Juli has two children, Carolyn and Richard whom i am sure are trying to cope..

Was sorry to hear of Juli's passing. Never met her, but, have read a bit and have heard from those who knew her. Looks like boat racing is loosing some of the old time greats.
May the good Lord look over her family.
