  • Midwestern storm.

I live about an hour west of DePue. I was on my way to work monday morning at about 6am. A powerful thunderstorm struck with little warning. The storm was moving east at about 50mph. When the storm hit, The rain was so bad I couldn't see out the windshield. I had to stop the van and wait it out. The wind and hail was incredible! I was about 1/2mile from the QuadCity airport where they recorded winds of 94mph! I thought my van would be tipped over!
This area is devastated. The Quad City area had about 180,000 homes and businesses without power. There are many still in the dark. There are about 700 power company workers here from 8 states. My power was out for 3 1/2days. I'm thankful my home and family are ok. Many around here are not so lucky. I only have a damaged roof and a lot of tree damage.
It's hard to believe a thunderstorm could be so powerful.

Things like this help to make us realize how grateful we all should be for our blessings.

    Jeff:

glad you are OK. I don't miss those midwest flash storms at all...In 90 we had a micro burst in Oswego. Came down and we all dove in the hopper of a CAT 727 scraper. When done, the shop had no doors and the scraper was on it's side, everyone shook, not hurt.

96 we had the 1000 year rain...16 inches in 4 hours...Fox river was up for 2 weeks after....

Long before that in 74 the dam in Wilmet? Wisc broke. The Fox was up 250' in our front yard.

Did someone fool mother nature and tick her off???? LOL
