  • George Carlin: The Real Owners of America

This is by the great George Carlin:

    The Real Owners Of America

"The real owners are the big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions. Forget the politicians, they're an irrelevancy. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They've long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the statehouses, the city halls. They've got the judges in their back pockets. And they own all the big media companies, so that they control just about all of the news and information you hear. They've got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying * lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want; they want more for themselves and less for everybody else."

"But I'll tell you what they don't want. They don't want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that. That doesn't help them. That's against their interests. They don't want people who are smart enough to sit around the kitchen table and figure out how badly they're getting fu*ked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fu*king years ago.

"You know what they want? Obedient workers * people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork but just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly ****tier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, reduced benefits, the end of overtime and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it. And, now, they're coming for your Social Security. They want your fu*king retirement money. They want it back, so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They'll get it. They'll get it all, sooner or later, because they own this fu*king place. It's a big club, and you ain't in it. You and I are not in the big club."

    "This country is finished."

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

While the unwashed and ignorant protested in their First Amendment Zone and rallied around a flag that wasn't even made in a free country, miles away in their castles, the corporate monopoly owners laughed, chuckled and commented "There's no better slave in the whole world than those who think they are free."

The system that threw them overboard (all but the rich) was the Republicans. The middle class is shrinking, bad news for everyone.

The point Carlin was making is- politicians have less say than lobbyists and large corporations. BTW, just look at George, he was definitely a liberal, but he insulted without prejudice, he insults everything and anyone.

No Mr. Weaver the greedy businessmen and crooks that George Carlin are all Republicans - believe me - I spent almost 40 years in corporate America and I was just close enough to smell the money - not to get any of it - but I know the mindset of these folks and it can briefly be described as more, more, more for me (the chief dog) and less, less, less for the workers. That's why wages in this country have been going down for the past 7 years. Bush & Cheney personify this attitude.

            Goodbye George.

            A message by George Carlin,
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. ! We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stock room. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time! when yo u can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

            AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
            George Carlin

I would argue that both parties are to blame. The GOP has run the show for the last 7 years and done as they wish, while the Dem's have shown no backbone whatsoever to stand up to them. A viable third party is needed to keep the other 2 somewhat honest (I know, wishful thinking!), but both parties and their $$$$$ will put a stranglehold on any of that. We don't live in a black and white world (and no i'm not talking about race, though i'm sure that issue will be beaten into the ground until Nov.), we have complex issues that transcend one ideology or another. And I am tired of the us vs. them mentality between liberals and conservatives. Don't we all have a vested interest at what's at stake here? There are plenty of us who don't buy into the short-sided dogma that either side feeds us. But then again what's the answer? For example (typical mindset)- Congress sucks, but not my Congressman/Senator he/she is great, so we keep electing the same A-holes over and over and over again, just because they have an R or D in front of their name. How about taking party affiliations off the ballots, just names, then people might actually have to so some research and maybe we can get some more sensible representatives in charge ( again, wishful thinking on my part, kinda sucks to be the glass half full guy sometimes!). So what now?

                I respect George

Not because of his politcal views which I oftern did not agree with, but sometimes did. He put his money where is mouth was and this landed him in jail. Now, he did not hurt anyone else and he allowed the powers that be to make his points forhim thru their own short sighted behavior (smart guy).

100 Words that you cannot say on Public TV was a simple classic.

The world was a better place when Ronnie left the White House. Unfortunately, the seeds for the next round of "big" problems were sown by a short sighted congress (i.e. oil and Afghanistan). See Charlie's War movie.

Isn't that what Obama and the "short sighted" democratic congress wants to do in Iraq--> Pull out, not support the rebuilding of a country after it was blown to shreds, and as a result, it will be a breeding ground for nut jobs and terrorists. Why don't we just hand over Iraq to Osama, instead?

The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by 'justifying' them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book ab out 'how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way'...Insane!

                          New Rules for 2008
GEORGE CARLIN'S NEW RULES FOR 2008

New Rule: No more gift registries. You know, it used to be just for weddings. Now it's for babies and new homes and graduations from rehab. Picking out the stuff you want and having other people buy it for you isn't gift giving, it's the white people version of looting.

New Rule: Stop giving me that pop-up ad for classmates.com! There's a reason you don't talk to people for 25 years. Because you don't particularly like them! Besides, I already know what the captain of the football team is doing these days --- mowing my lawn.

New Rule: Don't eat anything that's served to you out a window unless you're a seagull. People are acting all shocked that a human finger was found in a bowl of Wendy's chili. Hey, it cost less than a dollar. What did you expect it to contain? Lobster?

New Rule: Stop saying that teenage boys who have sex with their hot, blonde teachers are permanently damaged. I hav e a better description for these kids: 'Lucky bastards.'

New Rule: Ladies, leave your eyebrows alone. Here's how much men care about your eyebrows: Do you have two of them? Good, we're done.

New Rule: There's no such thing as flavored water. There's a whole aisle of this crap at the supermarket, water, but, without that watery taste. Sorry, but flavored water is called a soft drink.

New Rule: The more complicated the Starbucks order, the bigger the asshole. If you walk into a Starbucks and order a 'decaf grandee, half-soy, half-low fat, iced vanilla, double-shot, gingerbread cappuccino, extra dry, light ice, with one Sweet-n'-Low, and One NutraSweet,' ooooh, you're a huge asshole.

New Rule: I'm not the cashier! By the time I look up from sliding my card, entering My PIN number, pressing 'Enter,' verifying the amount, deciding, no, I don't want Cash back, and pressing 'Enter' again, the kid who is supposed to be ringing me up is standing there eating my Mars Bar.

New Rule: Just because your tattoo has Chinese characters in it doesn't make you Spiritual. It's right above the crack of your ass. And it translates to 'beef with broccoli.' The last time you did anything spiritual, you were praying to God you weren't pregnant. You're not spiritual. You're just high.

New Rule: If you're going to insist on making movies based on crappy old television shows, then you have to give everyone in the Cineplex a remote so we can see what's playing on the other screens. Let's remember the reason something was a television show in the first place is that the idea wasn't good enough to be a movie.

New Rule: And this one is long overdue : No more bathroom attendants. After I zip up, some guy is offering me a towel and a mint like I just had sex with George Michael. I can't even tell If he's supposed to be there, or just some freak with a fetish. I don't want to be on your webcam, Dude. I just want to wash my hands.

New Rule: When I ask how old your toddler is, I don't need to hear '27 months.' 'He's two' will do just fine. He's not a cheese. And I didn't really care in the first place.

New Rule: If you ever hope to be a credible adult and want a job that pays better than Minimum wage, then for God's sake don't pierce or tattoo every available piece of flesh.&n bsp; If so, then plan your future around saying, 'Do you want fries with that?'
