I just heard and it was confirmed that we lost Scott Kalitta today! I was able to meet and to get to know quite a few of the sports "legends" up at Seattle. Being around them has brought me to the realization that we being racers puts us in a great fraternity. Even though some may race on two wheels, or four, some on skids on ice, some spinning small little "wheels" in water, some turn only left while other make all kinds of turns while some just go straight, when a tradegy like this happens, for me anyway, it brings the reality of what we all do to light. Most of you who might read this, I've never met but would really like to, some of you reading this I love very much! When disaster strikes, I reflect back on friends I've made in this great sport of hydroplane racing and ponder the idea of life without you, I'm not ashamed to say my eyes get wet at the thought. To my friends in region ten, I may joke with you some, maybe even to the point of being an annoyance, but I hope you understand that when I say I love you, this is from the heart and it's meant! I never want to be ashamed of those words. Forgive me if I may have offended some, this was not my intent. I just want my friends to know I do care for them, even the ones who has tried to hurt me, I still care for them. For those who are so inclined, I may ask when you hit your knees tonight, ask God to love the Kalitta family and I will ask God to love all of you.
GODSPEED SCOTT KALITTA!
