Hey buddy, how old are you now?? Let's see, born in 1953.... But you started racing in, what? 1970? Starting out in grandpa's basement with Uncle Phil, conjuring up the blue prints for the first of several Hawk Hydro originals and 38 years later still actively involved in club politics, race directing, sponsoring and coaching the next generation of Hawk Hydro racing, and of course, keeping the young guns on their toes and off the bouys.
Ya know, now that I'm a grown up (yea right) I can look back and say with conviction that if there's one thing you managed to teach me that will probably stick with me all my life, is the philosophy that if the world tells you you can't do something, you flip the world the bird and then do it anyway. It's definitely a philosophy that has served you well over the past 50-some years. It takes a lot to play by the rules and make it in society, but you were one of the few who ignored the rules and still managed to make it. That takes a lot of determnation, or pure, mule-headed stubbornness, but it's something not many people get to do. And it's kinda cool to think that you were one of the few who did; even more-so, it's encouraging.
Long winded speech concluded-Happy Birthday old man! I'll see you tonight-we've got motor work to do.
