I'm usually a fan of underdogs. Last year I lived in Northern VA the local college down the road a few miles made an astonishing run to the Final Four. George Mason. The talking sports heads were going, "Who in heck is George Mason?" Even funnier, more'n 80% of the GMU student body work and commute, and most of them had no idea GMU even had a basketball team! I loved that March Madness year, and lemme tell ya, if you didn't like crazy party situations, you didn't want to be in Fairfax, VA the day the Cinderella squad returned home. It was nuts!
This year I'll have to go with Davidson. 1700 students - wow, talk about the little guys. In the 60's when Lefty Driesell was the coach, Davidson was known as the Giant Killer team. Looks like their back, and their bad!
If Maryland and Tennessee meet it will get ugly at our house. Our boarders (Daughter & SIL) are TN fans, and I'll be wearing red and cheering for the Terps!
In 1986 Navy, led by David Robertson, made it to the Elite Eight and met Duke University. Dick Viltale said to his straight man, "We're about to see NCAA history made tonight." (may not be an exact quote)
Straight Man: "What's that, Dick?"
Dick: The U.S. Naval Academy is playing Duke University. This may be the first time in NCAA basketball history where every player on the teams can CORRECTLY SPELL THEIR MAJOR!"
