  • The Passing if Gertrude Engler

    Hello everyone,

I just wanted to post a short note to let the few people on here that knew her, that Gertrude Engler (My Grandmother and Dicks Mother) passed away on December 19th.

For over 40 years she was always welcome boat racers to her home and table. She never had a bad word to day about anyone.

She passes at the age of 89 after a short illness, she said it was her time and not to mourn her for she had a great life.

    May she rest in peace.

She was telling stories of the Winnebago Marathon and races in Oshkosh right up till her last day.

I will never forget stories about the Berghauers and trains and BLT sandwiches.

These stories were from the 50's and 60's when Dick was a kid. Must have been great times.

Eric, I am sorry to hear about your loss. Your grandmother was a great lady.
It was always a pleasure to go to your dad's home and learn from him while working on my equipment in his basement. Without fail every three or so hours there would always be a pleasant interruption from the top of the stairs, Gertrude letting us know that there was another hot meal prepared for us. She made it very difficult to maintain my weight for "A" but I enjoyed every bite.
            Rest in peace Grandma Engler.
