  • Hydroplane help! CSH? Plans?

    Hi!

This summer I tried my grandpas friend homemade hydro, and I LOVED it!

Where I live, in Norway(Europe), hydros are a very rare sight unfortantly. I've never experienced such speed and stability in a so little boat, and they look awesome too!

I am now thinking of getting one myself. Since they are so rare here in Norway, there isn't anyone I can buy. To ship a whole boat from the states would probably be way too expensive, and I also have to pay a LOT of taxes and all sort of things.

If it wasn't for that I would surely do it, cause I've noticed that they don't cost that much eather where you live!

So then, ofcourse to my questions!
I probably have a lot of mistakes, both the written ones and if I missed a couple of things

    1. I've seen capitol letters like "CSR" and "CSH", are they some kind of classes or anything? I've noticed that a lot of boats are very short and clumpy, while the CSH is quite slim looking or something? I attached a picture to show, sweet looking thing!

    2. Is it possible to get/buy plans for some similiar boat? I know NOTHING about 3d-modelling etc, but I can build a boat if I got some proper plans to follow I also have to modify it a little bit so 15" shaft fits, shorter than that is impossible to get where i live

Any helping tips are realy appreaciated! Just ask if you wonder about something, or if I missed something.

I really hope you can help me with these questions, it would help me a lot.

    Greetings,
    Sindre, Norway.

hey Sindre, this boat pictured is a Darneille DMH (D class modified hydroplane). It is a much larger boat than a Yamato would be ran on. CSH (C class Stock hydro) and CSR (C class stock runabout) are meant for the Yamato outboard motors. MJR sells very good plans (from what I am told) to build boats in prettty much every class we race over here in the US. I think you asked me if Larry Darneille sold plans for his boats, but the answer was no, sorry. They are limited production built boat and of very high quality.

            Try MJR's boat plans!

I want to recommend Marc Johnson's boat plans to you. I have built three boats using his plans and they are easy to follow and the boats handle great.

Thanks! But aren't they a little tricky in saltwater? The boat will be run for fun in saltwater, Norway is ideal for this since there are tons of tiny island etc so we dont get like big waves What is the differences between this and e.g a 30hp Tohatsu exept the shaft? What does this engine typically cost? I see you can send them a mail but just need a price +\-.

The "D" hydro seems awesome, but do they just sell frame kit and complete boat kit? Prices is no problem but taxes and getting it to my adress is. I was thinking to put on a 50hp yamaha 15" or something. What is the performence and weight on a "44 cu. in. Mercury racing engine"?

              mercguy, that's right
I will send a mail to Marc Johnson aswell, thanks again!

                Hei Sindre!

                Hvordan går det?

If you are interested in hydro racing you should in the summer go to watch the racing in Mora, Sweden. It is one of the big race meetings in the calendar with lots of racing, different classes of boats and people who can give you advice and ideas.

                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWY0Bif13oI

If you are interested in building a boat there are lots of people you can talk to in Scandinavia; Christian Mölgaard (Denmark), The Dickfors Family (Sweden). These are just two names of boat builders. It may be also an idea to talk to your countryman Frode Sunsdal (www.f2boat.com). Frode knows everyone who races boats in Norway! Ok, Frode does not race hydros but he knows lots and lots of people

If you need any help from me just send me a Private Message

                Ha det bra!

                  Det går strålende takk

Yes it will be considered, but I do it pretty much just for then fun of it! And for having something that no one elses has

70 or 90mph, I don't care that much since it's fast as hell anyway..

The owner of the boat I tried was 2x champion in Norwegian racing(400ccm) so he is quite experienced. A v-hull does NOT have the same capabilities, and I will have it as a project.

Got an answer about the plans from MJR now. I will take my time to see what happends, but it is going to get realized! Right now it is snowing=/
