  • Brighton, MI News Paper Articles

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone in the IOA for putting on a great race in Brighton. Unfortunately we had an unexpected delay on Sunday, but for the most part the race was run absolutely flawlessly, and we were out of there on time both days. It's been an incredible rookie season for me this year. Racing was everything I expected it to be and so much more. The race in Brighton is about 45 minutes from my house so my entire family got to see me get my first win and the ceremonial bath that follows (thank you Jimmy Robb). It was a great way to close out the season. Not to mention there was an awesome picture of me and Rob Zilka in the local newspaper. Below are the links to the newspaper articles from both Saturday and Sunday if anyone is interested in reading them. There are even a few picture galleries from the weekend as well. Once again thank you to everyone in the IOA for everything this weekend and all season. I look forward to what next season has in store.

      great weekend

A guy can not even get his named dropped. My friend said to the paper....

"Hydroplanes glide over top of the water, while runabouts plow through it," he said.

He finished third out of three boats in the race in what he said was his first spin in a runabout in 15 years.

"A friend of mine had asked me if I'd drive his boat this year, and I said, 'Sure, sometime,'" Robb said. "He talked me into it (Saturday night) at the Shark's Club over a couple of beers. It was fun to race it, in the 30 seconds or so I had to get used to the boat."

If it was in the paper it must be true! LOL!!!!!

Yes that really is the 33M boat up in the front of an OMC loaded field! See what happens when you take 100lbs out of the boat.... Mark Pugh was out front for two laps before Tom Smith in the Mike Ross owned omc passed him.

I say we have a Hydroracer Biggest Loser Contest. Seeing my equipment out front was nice, but seeing me drop 50lbs would be the better.

Brian we will gang up on the news paper guy next year. Have the article for him to publish all done before we get to the race. Make sure you take all the credit. The thing I am mad about is there is no mention of the job your mom provides and the wonderful treats she brings or the wonderful scoring crew. I love being the referee for you guys in IOA. It doesn't get any better working with the girls you have. THEY ROCK!!!!!! Dawn don't forget to send my that program. Thanks to all who were involved. It was a great weekend to end the season and can't wait till next year. Mike

You know I will have a cold one with you guys anytime. As far as the boss/ref thing. I enjoy helping run the races. And you know the old saying, "the older I get the faster I was" I do have to admit that watching Tommy run my FEH has me really wanting to get in that rig and make some high speed passes. The Smith-Ross racing team is coming on with a vengence and is going to strike victories down like lighting from the sky. Anyway thanks for the add a boy Gotz. See Ya Soon Mikey

                    She Did

I think she got firsts in K PRO each day. That is Ashley's first new boat I built her. We call it her birthday boat. I got it built, rigged, painted and prepped with about an hour to spare before her Surprise Birthday party a couple years ago.

                      Brighton results

Not to knock her performance, but Kyle did beat her on Sunday. Now that we are all running the same propshaft depth I think that any one of the three kids is capable of the win with nailing the start. Kyle can't wait for next year.

After all this time seeing me build new boats for everyone else, we are putting one together for him this winter. If he keeps eating like he is though I may have to build it only 25# or so!

It is Fun to Watch Them

I get a big kick out of watching Kyle, Garret and Ashely race KPRO. At any of the IOA races it is a toss up who is gonna win. I have to give Kudos to Ashley on her starts this year, she has improved like 500% on her starts this year. Only a couple 5 second late starts this year. Garret has been doing well, improving each time. And Kyle, wow, he has come a long ways since he first started.

All three of those kids are a hoot to watch race against each other. Because they were so darn close on speed. Love it.

Height wise, we were running the same setups that AXSH runs with our own props, no restrictor plates in KPRO. I don't think there is a height restriction in KPRO, am I right ? So we might be able to do some testing in that area.

                          K Pro heights

                          Dave,

It is 1 3/4" propshaft depth. I didn't believe it either until Kyle told me that on the way to Hillsdale. That is what we have been running at. (Until the last day at Brighton!)

I'm sure that all three of them can't wait until next year.

                          Steve
