Kevin- what are you calling a service engine? Any 13.2cu" engine from 1986-1992 is legal to convert. From 1993-2006 the 9.9/15hp is a 15cu" engine.....

Any 13.2cu" p/h is approved for Formula "A". There were plenty of the units built from 1986 to 1992 that are in circulation.

Brent: Could you please prepare a recomendation to the SORC about pre-1986 parts? We will need a list of serial numbers to include. Roger Pryzbyla may be interested in helping you with this. Ed.

The OMC will soon be replaced with the Sidewinder.

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

True parity is one motor per class.

But until it arrives & is purchased by everyone running an "A" class. We have to concentrate on the engines currentley available for competition.

Please send of a list of them. We got a bunch of kids in the J Program who can't find OMC A's for sale.

                    Thanks,

That is why I question individuals wanting to use P/Hs/block #s/engines produced prior to 1986. There is plenty of it out there.

The OMC will NOT be replaced with the Sidewinder. When the new Hot Rod becomes available, it will be made a legal engine for the A Classes along with the Merc and OMC. This will not mean that the OMCs will not continue to be legal. And there is no reason not to allow replacement parts for those guys who continue to want to run OMCs.

Moreover, the Sidewinder A is still on the drawing board at this point and there is a parts shortage for OMCs.

Fred: The Mercs are not competitive in the A class, only the AXS class, and despite multiple attempts to make the Mercs competitive with the OMC, nothing that would ensure this was ever adopted by the SORC or the members.

Pray that the Sidewinder does not suffer the same fate as the Merc. Ed.

Are the Mercs competitive in the "J" class?
