Here is a copy of the December SO Propeller Article which, I believe, gives an overview of the Agenda that I intend to put forth at the Annual Meeting. As you can see, contrary to what "they are saying", the new SORC under my leadership will continue to encourage new equipment into the SO Category. That really shouldn't be surprising to anyone who has seen the measures I have supported in the past. I have always favored new equipment. I will, however, endeavor to protect and preserve the old equipment for those who want to race it as long as they want to do so.

As I did eight (8) years ago, I returned from a week's vacation to find that I have been elected the Stock Outboard Chairman. The first time that occurred, it was a complete suprise to me. This year, however, I campaigned for the position in a limited manner. The suprise this time was that I was actually elected and the margin of the vote. Since the APBA By Laws prohibit category chairmen from serving on the Board of Directors, I have now resigned from my position on the BOD since it is my pleasure to accept the position of SO Chairman and again serve the members of the Stock Category.
I wish to thank out-going Chairman, Scott Reed, for a fine job in handling the position for the last two (2) years. I know, as well as anyone, that the job requires much attention and time, and is generally a thankless one for doing nothing more than serving the Category that the chairman loves. Thank-you, Scott, for all of your hard work and effort.
In my limited effort to campaign for this position, I put forth a very simple agenda: (1) encourage new equipment into our Category and (2) preserve existing equipment and members at the same time. I believe the second half of this important agenda will separate it from the one in place for the past two (2) years. I will continue Stock Outboard's committment to new equipment and manufacturers. This will occur, however, in a climate that allows all of our existing equipment to continue to be used in Stock Outboard rather than to force the owners of that equipment to race somewhere else. To be sure, existing equipment and class rules may need to be tweaked somewhat to allow the new equipment to be competitive. I am dedicated to the idea that new members must want to buy new equipment and believe that they can win with it in order for our Category to not only survive, but to advance into the future. Additionally, we will continue the effort to produce an updated Technical Manual that is current with all technical specifications for all engines and all classes. Likewise, we will look very hard at rules that have a significant impact on the cost of racing in order to reduce the "barriers" to racing.
Over the next few weeks, I hope that all of you will take the time to express your concerns to your elected Stock Outboard Commissioners. The APBA Annual Meeting is the place to implement rules which address your concerns. But your Commissioners must know your concerns in order to present them to the full SORC at the Annual Meeting.
Thank-you for the vote of confidence for those of you who have supported my return to this position. I hope that we can work together to better the sport of Stock Outboard racing for our existing members and for those who we encourage to join us.
