Will GT Pro become a national class with OPC next year or will it still be just regional?

  • #2
GT Pro is not on track to become national any time soon. We tried to get eight drivers together to attract an invitation to the OPC Nationals this summer, but were unable to do so, mostly for economic or logistical reasons. The Nationals are held each year on Labor Day weekend in Kankakee, IL. About half of our class are high school or college students who are either already back at school by that time, or have to be back in class the day after Labor Day. Furthermore, the parents of one of our young racers are themselves public school teachers who have to get back to work bright and early that same Tuesday morning.

We'll try again next season. Hopefully an exhibition race in Kankakee will inspire others to start up GT Pro racing in other Regions.

Of course, the class can be raced anywhere there are a few interested drivers and a cooperating local club. I know a racer in Louisiana who has been trying to get something going for two or three years now. He's a little frustrated with guys who express some interest and then don't follow through, but I'd be happy to put anyone interested in contact with him.

GT Pro has been invited to the 2011 OPC Nationals in Kankakee, IL this Labor Day weekend.

I have five drivers, so far, who report they are planning to go. A couple more maybe, including one from Louisiana. Still waiting to hear from a few more. Hopeful for six to eight boats.

Info about GT Pro at Dillon Racing.

Anyone interested in bringing GT Pro to their Region will want to be in Kankakee in 2011.
