Calling all computer geeks. Please help me test this form.
Attached below is the standard APBA Entry Blank in PDF format that has been modified to accept text in fields. Now you can fill in and print your race entry blank using your computer before arriving at registration. This helps folks who:
1. Type faster than they write
2. Write illegibly
3. Have multiple race entries with similar information (parents filling out forms for children)
To help me test this form:
1. Download this file to your computer. You may have to open it first via your web browser and then save it to your hard drive.
2. Open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader (the free version).
3. Click your mouse where you would normally write text by hand.
4. Type your info.
5. Tab to the next field.
6. Print out the completed form.
You’ll notice several things:
A. The text size is auto sensing. The more text you type in a field, the smaller the type gets. This may not be visually appealing when the form is completed, but it means that the text is as large as it can be, making it easier to read.
B. The fields were created with the space available on the standard form. Where some fields such as Date may appear small, that’s the space given. I didn’t want the text overlapping and I can’t change the APBA entry blank.
C. I tried using pop-up lists for some fields such as category (Stock, Pro, Modified) but that was not as easy to use as I wanted and I scuttled the idea. I decided "simple is best".
D. Unfortunately the limitation of using Adobe Acrobat Reader (the free version) is that you can’t save your data. Once you close the file, the next time you go to print out your forms you have to retype every field. Hint: Fill out every field except the Event Location and Date and print/copy as many as you need for the rest of the season.
Give me feedback via this thread and I’ll make improvements where I can.
