  • AOF Nationals THANK YOU!!!!

As the VP of Competition with the American Outboard Federation, I would like to thank all the racers for supporting the 2006 Nationals. As you all know, the weekend went great and many new champions were crowned. I also want to say thank you to Northwest Water Competition (NWC) and the Stateline Outboard Racing Association (SLORA). These two clubs Co-Hosted the Nationals last weekend in Moses Lake, WA. Many said you could not “jointly” host a national event, and you proved them ALL wrong. This race had drivers in attendance from CORA, SOA, SLORA, NWC, and Whidbey Island Roostertails. Also in attendance that deserve a thank you would be Rod Black AOF President, Tony Staron who came from Florida to referee, Kevin Martin AOF Safety Director who sat in turn 2 as a turn judge for 2 days, Dave Anderson and Lee Tietze, Corey Sampson and Bruce Wolford who headed up the Inspection area, Jon Gallagher who obtained many sponsors and also hustled a lot of behind the scenes events before, during, and after the event. Dennis Westby who also sat in turn 1 all day as a turn judge, Dennis also sponsored all the Pizza at the awards banquet Saturday night and Sattler Racing sponsored all drinks to wash down the pizza. You all deserve a big round of applause for helping AOF achieve our goals within the 2006 racing season. Again, thank you for supporting Boat racing and being a huge part in the AOF.

    Mike,
We are all anxious to hear who the national champions are. Can you give us a list of some of them from memory?
I have heard J Michael Kelly in a couple of classes and Rick Keller. Any more? How about J? How did the Too Hot Sue do?

      thanks!!

I really had a great time (especially after I figured out how your clock worked (my terrible first start!) . It was a great race and well ran. I will definately attend a couple races next year ran by these (2) clubs. I did succeed in my 1 mission..................to "hose down" Mr. Kevin Martin!!!

        Daren,

Glad you had such a great time. It was nice to finally meet you in person and see all your top notch equipment and your "hose down kevin Martin" techniques.

Hope to see you around next year.

as usual with most National events, I do not get to socialize enough. But, it was funny watching Tony dance on the table at the casino!

                Pictures Request

                Hey Mike,

Who do we contact to get a copy of an awards picture? I would like an electronic jpeg file copy of the picture of Mark, Jon, and I. Thanks again for your effort in making the event so successful.

I got second in SK Nostalgia flat and your lovable jErK, my husband, won his first Nationals! and was dunked and now suffers eye infections in both eyes! I had a blast driving Todd and Karens Jones Starfire and they should be thanked big time for their help with sponsors and all those donuts every morning, I think Mike accidently left them out. Looking forward to the banquet.

                    Robin,
Thanks for the update on the nostalgic class. I was hoping for a win for you. I like your husband all right, but it was you who gave me a ride in her boat. That was the most awesome experience I have ever had. It would have been nice to see how fast I was going, but with your eyes shut it is kind of hard.
Sorry about Boyd's eyes. I hope he gets better really soon. That water looked clean when we were there. Let us know if there is something in the water that would need to be addressed for the stock nationals next year.
                    Thanks for keeping me informed.

If you really want to know, I think his tears are toxic and not the water, it was the best racing conditions ever! It's been a while since he has driven after his flip and since I have retired, he actually had a boat to drive, MINE! Well, do I have to live with the Champion or are we still adding points? It's going to be a pain, but it was his turn, I had my two seasons of kicking mens ____! He worked very long hours to create this inboard class and put up with a lot of grief from certain hydro AND flat guys! Now we are an APBA and AOF recognized class, WOW!
I also got to give about 8 rides after the race to the new owners and anyone on the dock! It was a great send off for me to drive the red and white #SK87 for the very last time and put smiles on so many surprised faces, like you Connie! One riders son and Grampa were total hydro racing fans and Gramps said, "I have to get me one"! Mateson, I think was his name......boy is he in trouble now! !!
We love racing and appreciate all the hard work, boy we know about that, that everyone pitched in and got R Done at Moses! But this is my last year, I hope jerk continues since so many flats love to race him and especially beat him but at 56 years old, I dont know how many heats his old body has in it!
Thank you big guy, Todd and Karen Bohnet, for the priviledge of driving your special SK680 Jones Starfire, it was the best time of my life and the best send off I could ever have and finishing second isnt so bad also. Now, maybe, I will be back if I could find another Jones ride. Ron Jones makes good hydroplanes also! See you at the Banquet!
