  • Wednesday at the Nationals

Day two of elimination worked out great for MHRA and the 2009 nationals. The 8:30am start of AXSR was greeted with gloomy skies and a hovering fog over Grass Lake. The eliminations clicked of one right after another with turn bouys taking their toll at first than drivers boats taking there turn. Tom Nuchio had a wild ride in his runabout when he discovered rollers in turn one. Fliping his very fast rig to take a DNF. Ed Harrington had no were to go when a competitor blew his boat skyward in front of him in the turn. Eds hydro was a total lose when it struck the other boat and Ed went thru the bottom of the hull. Both drivers sufered only minor cuts and bumps. The kids did well with some upsets and some jump start shuffling the finals around with some new blood. The pizza party a Brinkmans marina was awesome and Vic and MHRA did a first class job in feeding everyone for FREE. The kids got toys and prizes and the adults talked shop and told war stories about thier day of racing. The Tahatsu boys did well taking a 3rd and 4th in eliminations. I have video of the 20SSH elims and some other videos as well and will post as soon as I can. Enjoy!

Great weather after 10:00 and a cross wind across the lake provided for a great day of blue skies and tough driving down the back streach. The early morning start looked liked a Alfred Hichcock movie weather wise.

More of Wend. at the nationals. Frank Zorkan (last picture) from Arizona has sat in his chair at lakes edge taking in every heat of racing for the past three days. He then retires to his camper truck and sleeps for the night and is back viewing the races at the start of every morning. What dedication and a love of the sport.

More pics day 3 at the nats. Race director Brian Trolian (top picture) follows in his fathers foot steps of putting on great races. We miss you Pops! R.I.P.

Fred Miller (2nd pic) takes in the classes coming into inspection after their heats at the nationals.

The crowds take in the races at waters edge at the start line at Grass Lake.

Brian Trolians No start for his runabout class was a heart breaker as many pitched into help. Pic 4

Pic 5 is our future of boat racing. Represented well at this years Nats.

              Not good

Ed Harringtons hydro was a total and headed to the burn pile after he went thru the bottom of the hull in turn 1. Ed only and minor damage to his wrist. Thank God for kevlar cut suits.

                    Door Prize

I was hoping that this ZO6 Corvette was the door prize for the Wild Ones pizza party. The owner informed me it was not.

Will post more on Friday folks. See Ya!

Tom, many thanks for all the shots. Wish I was there.
Good to see Jim Robb and who was that in the picture standing by a certain A runabout with Johnson power?
Look forward to all the picture postings.
Boy, does Frank Zorken get around at nationals time. Still haven't met him.
