  • Hinton Race - SE Divisionals

    To all APBA members.

The sanction for the 2013 SO/MOD/J/AX SE Divisionals and PRO E. Divisionals has been approved and is posted on the APBA website. This is the second year we will be returning to gorgeous Bluestone Lake for the running of the Travis Pond Memorial Regatta in conjunction with the West Virginia Water Festival Host Committee. Since the sanction came out there has been an important change.

RV's: We are now allowed to have our RV's in the pits during the day. They had originally denied this request but after some intense negotiations we are allowed to park them during race operations only. All RV's are still REQUIRED to utilize and stay overnight at the Bluestone State Park campground. When you call to make a reservation at the Park please use this number 304-466-2805, and tell them you are with the Boat Races and they will make sure you have a reservation. We will set up space somewhere at the rear of the pits for RV parking during the day. As before, there will be shuttle service between the RV campground at Bluestone State Park and the pits. Due to the lack of space this year, we would like to ask if you really don't need your RV down in the pits during the day please use the shuttle service. But if you will need access to your RV during the day you can bring it down and park it.

Hotels: There is a typo on the sanction regarding two hotels and pets. The New Briar Lodge does accept pets with a small fee (it is now saying NO PETS, that is in error). Also, the Sandman hotel does NOT accept pets. There are a select few cabins at the Bluestone State Park that accept pets but these go quickly.

We will be running again the coveted Travis Pond Memorial Trophy, now being held by Jesse Ruehling, to be awarded to the winner of the largest class on Saturday's Divisional races. Last year it was CSH, but it could be any of our large classes, ASH, 20ssH, etc. We will again try to allow testing Friday afternoon, if the weather permits, with a $20 testing fee.

A few weeks ago we rigged up a "Promo Boat" (C Mod Hydro with a Y102 for looks) for the West Virginia Water Festival Host Committee (WVWFHC) to take around select places to help with awareness and sponsorship money. It has been a great success and the WVWFHC has been extremely happy with it. I will be travelling to Hinton the weekend of May 11-12 to appear with the boat at a local Car Show there. If you have not yet seen the WVWFHC's Facebook page it has lots of photos and info about the Promo Boat and races in general. See the link below:

If this link doesn't work, just type in "Hinton Boat Races" in the search bar and it will pop up.

If anyone has any questions please contact me on hydroracer or my cell phone: 336-549-4089.

    Thank you!

    Chris,

Will the bridge just south of the pits be open to auto traffic? Thought I recall that it is being improved in near term.

    Thanks.

      David,

Yes the existing Lilly Bridge will be open to traffic throughout the construction process of the new bridge. They are building the new bridge along side the existing one, and will tear down the existing one when they complete the new bridge. So, it will always be open to traffic.
