  • Part one of USTS Season recap and Round 3 at Lake Springfield July 1-3

nd once cleared you are ready for testing.
Want to give a shout out to Mike Weinandt who is not only our inspector, but has volunteered to take any plating issues to a company near his home to help our drivers get back on the water quicker. Thanks Mike

    Rex Bayer 225 400 625
    Brianna Payn 300 225 525
Well after the first two USTS races, Mackenzie finds herself in a familiar position out front in K-Pro, but a little different story this year as Rex Bayer took an overall win at Pleasant Prairie. Last year Mackenzie took every race she entered, including the USTS Nationals. Brianna Payn, Lyndsy McGrath, Maxine Pulsipher, and Emily Hutchinson, all on the distaff side are going to make it tough on Mackenzie and Rex to take it all home.

    Bob Cronin 400 400
    David Jones 400 400
The 125H puts to the test the slogan, you could throw a blanket over the leaders. Bob Cronin won at Lake Alfred, but did not make it to PP, while David Jones won at PP. However, Jon Wienandt put two decent finishes together to take a small 69 point lead on the 4th and 5th place drivers, and just 19 over Brandon Mills and 42 on Ray Hammond. David Tenny last year’s Hi Point and National Champ, had trouble at Lake Alfred and was unable to be at PP. So he has a huge hill to climb to repeat as Hi Point Champ, but you know he along with the rest of the 125H will have a huge tug of war at Depue

In 125R Tim Small who won the Nationals at Depue, has yet to make an appearance in the Ed Provini entry he won with last year. Yet to be heard from also is David Jones who is always a tough competitor in the Tenney entry of D-10E. This year young Brad Dygert from Bristol, In, has purchased the Brinkman 125R and has equated himself quite well. Seems to me I remember another family from Bristol, maybe the Kirts clan???? Dan a world champ and national champ is still hard at it in the capsule classes this year. Brad won at LA had some trouble with the fuel tank at PP, but finds himself out front in the points chase with a win and a third overall. Brianna Payn in her first year in the open classes has done quite well and is the second spot, with Jackson Hall taking the win at PP he is going to be in the mix for the nationals as well.
Got to seem like someone threw the anchor out when Andrew Thirlby kneels behind the wheel of the Thirlby Automotive 125R when he has been concentrating on the 500 and 700R classes and quite a speed difference. In addition Lyndsy McGrath took a run in her Grand Father Tim Chance’s 125 and says let me go faster!!!!!!

Jon Wienandt has a double going in high points after taking the lead in 125H he comes back and takes a lead in the 175H. Bob Cronin took LA and Baylee Burkland drove for the win at PP. These two swapped coming to LA and PP. Cronin looks awfully fast in this class and took LA against some real competition. David Tenney finished 2nd at LA but was not at PP. So this class is, as my Dad used to say, mixed up like cement.

    Chris Hellsten 300 0 300
In 250H, Pete Kelly in that beautiful Aero Marine, Bud Gann built entry had a win at PP and a 3rd at LA to lead the usual suspects in this class. Amy Nydahl, who has graduated from Ga. Southern, congrats Amy, won down at LA and had some trouble with motors and starts at PP but finds herself a close 2nd. Marc LaRose has done a terrific job this year and finds himself in the third spot after a 2nd at PP and a 5th in tough fields of 250H. Perennial stout running Chris Hellsten finished 2nd at LA but ran into trouble at PP>

    Richard Krier 400 0 400
    Tim Small 300 300
In 250R, this is a year where one finishes another does not, but Paulie Bosnich and JJ Walls has finished both races and Paulie takes small 100 point lead into round 3 at Lake Springfield.
Tim Small has had problems with the 250R, but you know he will pull all the stops out at Depue for the Nationals, and long-time champ, Rich Krier will be in the mix after winning at LA

    Gary Buskirk Jr 300 400 700
    Amy Nydahl 169 225 394
In 350H you have a tie between Gary Buskirk and Kurtis Nydahl for the top spot, each having won and a 2nd after two races. Kurtis sister Amy finds herself back in the 3rd spot, but that young lady will be a factor before the year is over. She has run into a few motor issues, but her Dad Pete will get that sorted out quickly.

This is a competitive field as I think I have seen in the 350R class. Lots of dicing back and forth for heat wins, changing of positions as we have moved along in the year. Last year’s champ, Brian Payn finds himself just two points behind JJ Walls as they lead the field in the 350R class. Tim Small won the first race of the year at LA, but ran into issues at PP and finds himself back in the 3rd spot over all. It is great to see David Anderson back with us this year after a couple of years not running. Welcome home David
