Transom AXH

I have to build the transom of my sons hydro higher to run the Merc ax motor as we had an omc last year,we were told one inch would be good. Because of the plates I will use to raise the transom what is the maximum thickness the transom could be before its to thick for the motor mounts?I don't have a merc to measure yet so....... the omc looks to be about 2 1/8 max. Anyone know off hand the size? or are the merc & omc brackets the same size?
