What a sweet rig I would pay James just for a ride, Gary Pugh is truly one the masters of boat design.

Just thought I'd add my two cents regarding James Aderholdt's boat, as I've had first hand experience of it racing here in Europe

This year James was very compeitive with this Pugh/VRP rig. A season of getting used to the boat last year and a few mods that were made over the winter really paid dividends. A couple of occasions James was the class of the field and blitzed the others in qualifying finding himself as pole sitter. I think he lost out 3rd place in the Worlds by a single point, but I'm sure if it hadn't been for cir***stances beyond his control - a much shortened race calendar and a race that was cancelled through too much water! - James would have secured 3rd no problem at all

As Dan said, the big plus is that Gary Pugh has put all of his years's of experience into the boat and its design. The design is very good, it's well rigged out and the workmanship.....well I don't have to tell you guys how well Gary builds boats. And having a 5000Nm safety capsule it's probably one of the strongest and safest boats out there (in my opinion). In fact I think they stopped testing the sample at 5000Nm, so it may well be even stronger!!

It would make a very interesting (read "quick") ride for you guys out in the States and would be ideal for a Rossi or VRP 500 to be bolted on the back.........

            Legal

To make it legal here, all one would have to do is add a piece of 6mm okoume or foam core from the pickle tip back about 48" or 40% on both sides and the bottom, to get around the US Pro hydro rule. This would comply with the pro ruling as a break in the sponson, to meet the 60% rule.

This issue has been discussed several time over the past years and I don't think APBA/PRO Divison will change the rules to meet UIM requirements. It's a shame that no USA PRO 250/350/500/700 Team can compete for a World Championship!!! The only PRO classes that meet UIM requirments are 125 Hydro and 175 Hydro. It would be nice to have some fellow countrymen represent the USA in a chase for a World Title. Ralph and Billy came over for the 0125 in Auronzo Italy, and it was nice to see American Flags on the jetty!

It may be time to change the PRO rules to conform to UIM. Those boats can perform in pretty rough water where our US Boats can not. Example, Cypress Gardens World Championships. Just a thought! Bob N-96
