Tim Seebold Wins the Powerboat St. Louis Grand Prix

Tim Seebold Wins the Powerboat St. Louis Grand Prix.
“Sometimes being lucky is better than being good,” said Tim Seebold
At the checkered flag it Tim Bowden and Terry Rinker who finished first and second respectively with Tim Seebold coming in third.
But after the race, ChampBoat officials accessed one lap penalties on both Bowden and Rinker. This allowed Seebold to win this third St. Louis Grand Prix in the past four years.
After the penalties were assessed, Shaun Torrente took second place and Wyatt Nelson finished third. Unlike NASCAR, the ChampBoat series accesses its penalties at the end of the race.
Bowden took a penalty for hitting a buoy and Rinker was penalized for causing the first race accident.
For his part, Tim Seebold acknowledged this isn’t the best way to win a race.
“An old boat racer told me to take everyone you get because you are going to lose some the very same way,” said Seebold.
Mike Seebold, Tim’s brother once had a St. Louis Grand Prix race championship pulled from him after his boat was disqualified for weight violation.
Tim Seebold had the race pole and took the early lead but not without consequence.
“My boat almost turned on over and the motor took a shot of water,” said Seebold. “The boat was never the same.”
But it did not appear to have any problems in the early laps. There were four restarts early in the race due to race accidents. Seebold was able to take the lead on the first two restarts but in the last two restarts, Rinker was too powerful and secured the lead. Rinker appeared to be in command when he nearly flipped his boat on lap 28. This allowed Bowden to take the lead and cruise to the apparent victory.
For Tim Seebold the win was bittersweet. This past February, his grandfather, Bill Seebold Sr. pasted away. His grandmother was at the race and was one of the first to congratulate her grandson after the victory.
“We dedicated this race to my Grandfather,” said Seebold. “Maybe this win was meant to be.”
In Champ II final, Glynn Matthews took with win with Kevin Ladd in second followed by Doug Young in third. Kelly Kidwell from Troy Missouri took sixth place.
