  • NBRA NATS moved to ALEX in September!!

    All,

10 days before the Nationals at Okmulgee Lake near Okmulgee, Okla.,
the sponsors cancelled their support citing "extreme temperatures"
and their perception of a potentially poor turnout of spectators.

Needless to say OBRA the host club is exasperated, but we've already rescheduled the NBRA Nationals to Lake Buhlow at Pineville/Alexandria Louisiana for September 29,30-October 1 (the dates of Pelican's already-set
race date). Randy Mathews and Dave Guadagnoli are hard at work as
you read this getting motels scheduled, prize money rounded up and
fire/rescue folks aligned for the race.

I know some of you have plane reservations already made and have
vacations planned around the Okmulgee race...and I'm very sorry this
confusion exsists. I can assure you this was TOTALLY out of OBRA's
    hands.

We'll be posting more details as they become available.

Couldn't the OBRA have the Nationals on the dates planned and at another location instead of Okmulgee? (I suggest Alex. )

            Come to Dayton Instead

Hey y'all. Come to Dayton instead. It's a week after your planned nationals date: Aug 26 & 27. The Alex date works better for APBA drivers to make your nationals anyway. At Dayton, we recognize all cards for competition. You'll have a good field of Super E's, E/D Mods, C Stock Hydros and OSY-400's. We have a good party there too. Ed.

With the new date, I may plan on attending for CSH and OSY.

                Doug,

NBRA doesn't have an OSY class.

This deal isn't settled yet. Last I heard they were going to try to keep the August date and and still have the race somewhere in Oklahoma. Maybe Dan will be able to give us an update this morning.

                  Okmulgee Resurrected

                  All,

Because of an unexpected ally in the lake ranger at Okmulgee State
Park, we will be holding the nationals at Okmulgee as originally
planned-- despite the pullout of the original sponsors.

Butch Webb and I will be meeting with this man this afternoon to iron
out details, but the nationals will be at Lake Okmulgee August 18-20
as planned. The details we have to work out don't affect those of you
racing (other than what we have to do to comply with the Lake Ranger's
wishes and rules once you get here. Those should be similar to what
we've had in the past.) The changes obviously alter our local cost
structure on the race, and we'll have to do some juggling, but the
race is on and we'll work out the rest.

                    Thanks Dave

Dave, thanks for the last post... these things do take time and, despite everyone wanting to know "right now," sometimes that isn't possible--as in this case. I appreciate your call for calm.

This isn't the first time this has happened to folks putting on a race, and it won't be the last. Things look good, however, for a good working relationship at this lake in the future despite the problems we experienced this year.

One has to remember, too, although the sponsors that pulled out (for their own reasons) won't be involved again... they did faithfully sponsor three races at this lake over the past three years... so there was no reason to think they would renege this year. Still... it happens.
