Aaaahhhh...the old left someone out syndrome bites another race.

Once again, I say you have to leave it up to the drivers to make their class function. Our stock and mod clubs need to stop picking classes that a few people think will show up. (I am not only talking about TRORA)

By leaving it up to the drivers, it will not be the race committee's fault if they do not run. As I have suggested many times, our clubs need to invite all stock and mod. Put on the circular that if you dont have 5(?) entries you do not race! Simple as that. Quit the guessing and babysitting. Let the driver's decide their fate.

No more combining classes either! Barf!!! If you want to go for a boat ride, stay at home and ride around your local lake.....much cheaper.

If I dont think I will have enough boats for my class (25ssh) then I will be on the phone recruiting and begging.

A good example was last weekend in Brighton, Mich. No 25ssh on the schedule and we had 7 to 8 drivers in the pits!

Isn't it possible to add DSH to the schedule at the last moment? I thought clubs need entries to survive?

Well, if you made it this far in my morning rant....then thank you for reading

Well it is the same old , same old.
In this corner, we have the drivers that got left off the schedule and have boats and motors sitting on the trailer. And in the other corner, we have those that complain about 3 boat heats, combined classes and running out of time and going to 1 heat racing.
While I know every race committee and every club would love to put all classes available on the water and get everyone their boatrides, most of the time, this is just not realistic. There is no way to make everyone happy, so you have to do the best you can for the majority. Not to mention the number of times drivers begged to get on the schedule, promising 6-8 boats and only 2-3 show up (not saying you Dave, just past experience with others). Or the comments we have received for being forced to go to one heat racing because you schedule too many classes. Either way, someone is b******g.

Because this is Mod Divisionals, all mod classes are on the schedule. Also, due to Mod rules, if there are 3 true boats, then they must run. 46 heats of racing per day is a hard day. This is going to mean that there will not be any "wait for me" time. I can guarentee that we will be running heats off as fast as can be safely done. Would 2 more heats kill anybody, probably not but look at a) it is only 3 days away. The sanction has been approved for 3 weeks and no one said 1 word until now b) the weather is looking better but is far from a beautiful July weekend c) this late in the season, we will have about 10hrs of daylight total and will most likely have fog each morning that we will have to wait on.

So, in closing, while we would love to accomidate everyone, this is the schedule and what will be run at this event. While it might not make every single person happy, we hope it give the race the best chance to be a successful, quality event and for the majority of the drivers who attend Franklin to have a good time and return next year. This may not be in agreement of everyone, it is the opinion of those that have chosen to do the work to put on the race.

If you disagree, get out of the back seat and take the wheel for awhile.

            Ok!!

            Hey Brian,

I do not think I will be there I can pretty much vouch for the Keegan trailer as well. Just a note I did not see the sanction until you posted it HERE or I would have made a note about it prior to this.

Brian is right about one thing that can happen. All the promises go out the window on race day when only 3 of the 8 actually show up.

Does anyone think a pre-registered, pre-paid format would work via the internet?

One week prior to the event, registration is shut off and we all know the schedule too?

p.s. many of us were 'taking the wheel' when many leaders were still wearin' kimbies....so be careful pointing fingers!!!

                              September 28, 2006 at 01:00 AM EDT
It's been a week since I came to my Dad's house. The hardest part is turning over at night to prevent pressure sores. We are going to make a mat for exercises similar to what they have at RIM. I'll be able to transfer from the wheelchair to the mat and then down to the floor so I can practice fall recovery, do my stretching exercises, balancing exercises, and strengthening exercises. Lynne (my wife) borrowed the cover mat from her friend and my Dad is out buying the wood to make the frame right now. We should be able to make the frame tomorrow. I've chosen an outpatient rehab facility, The Recovery Project, located in Livonia, MI. I see my surgeon on Oct. 6 to determine when I can take my brace off. If all goes as planned, I'll be able to sit upright without it that day. Then I will be able to start outpatient therapy soon after.

                              September 21, 2006 at 01:00 AM EDT
Today is the day! I am leaving inpatient therapy. I'll be heading to my Dad's house on Grosse Isle and staying there with my wife and boys until we figure out what we are doing with our house. It is a Colonial, built in 1908, and the basement sits half above grade. This means the first floor is about five feet above grade presenting some challenges for me to get inside. I'll be doing a home exercise program until I start outpatient therapy. The home program will last 2-4 weeks and the outpatient will last eight weeks. My plan is to go back to work ASAP but probably after I finish the therapy. My e-mail address is: Broge@SBCglobal.net - I hope to have internet access at my Dad's house but may have to talk him into a wireless unit if I can't get into the computer room. You have all been such great support and I thank you again. If I continue my outpatient therapy here at RIM I may be able to keep this care page. I'll try updating once I get home but I'm not sure if it will get turned off or not. I'll keep working hard and I wish all of you the best!

                              September 13, 2006 at 01:00 AM EDT
Only about one week left here as an inpatient at RIM. Today I'll be working on getting up from the floor and going up and down steps. The steps part is called 'bumping' and I think that gives you an idea of how it works. The hardest part about getting up the steps is that the heels of my shoes catch on each step as I move them up to the next one. I can make it up a half flight of steps in about 30 minutes but coming back down is much faster.
I went to a boat race last weekend for my TLOA (therapeautic leave of absence. My boy J.R. ran his first J hydro race and we were all proud of his performance. The best part is he had fun. It was great to be with my racing family and they are really helping me out. They held yet another raffle for me. I can't tell you about all the emotions that come out but I am certainly grateful and will keep working hard to make the best of this situation and towards the time when I can repay the kindness.

                              Take care,
                              John Broge
