George: Bob will be there along with Tim Drew. I talked with Steve Dunn last weekend and he is coming as well. Caferelli will be there and possibly a few others so DMR might be one of the bigger classes. Ed.

See you all there. Don't forget, registration Friday, 5pm (maybe a little earlier) until about 7 or 8pm. On Saturday, registration is only from 6:30 to 7:30. Driver's meeting is at 8 am.

Concessionaire will have breakfast and coffee. Have a safe trip. Ed.

                Still fastest

Brian Palmquist set a new CMH record driving Sam Hemp's B&H/Yamato rig. This record goes along with his Winternationals and Nationals wins and another record earlier this year to put him pretty good standing for another trip to the Hall of Champions. This record is the same one he broke last season but it wasn't approved because the inspector wasn't an approved MOD inspector. He didn't cry that he was unfairly treated before, he just did it again.

Heard some of the classes numbers were real low. 4 - 20's, 4 - CSH on Saturday. Chris Allen won CSH on Saturday... that all I know. Tried their cell several times today and get no answer.

                      Records?

                      Any other records than CMH?
                      Did you run both courses?
How did the race go, good water, many entries?

At Silver Lake, WA we had so many entires the water wasn't exactly record setting water, hence only 1 record.

George Luce and James each set records in there respective classes.....Congrats.

                          entries...

i have only heard second hand that the amount of entires was disappointing low... only 70 some. maybe the lowest boat count for dayton ever.

what i'm hearing is the midwest racers are burnt out. too many races in a row. too many races. and something about 14-H...

i think we have too many clubs in region 6 & 7, but i don't see that changing. additionally, we even have multiple races on the same weekend - sometimes running the same classes. sometimes less than 100 miles apart.

i feel a bigger and brighter future would consist of fewer better attened races. some will disagree. many will agree, but not want to lose their own [club's] race.

i think this is a unique problem in the midwest. we have a lot of do'ers. but i feel the people and clubs could work together better. our classes are begining to align better all the time. time to start aligning weekends and resources better. how about co-hosting some races...?

ioa, mhra, torc, trora, mrc, bsoa, drra... compared to maybe 2 SO & MO clubs in other regions.

                          just my 2 cents-

Does this mean the truce is off? Just say the word, my friend. All this after that case of Miller and my promise to leave you alone? Ed.

                              Dayton

I appreciate everyone who came to Dayton coming this year. This is the only site in the Midwest or for racers in the East to go to set records in this part of the country. About every 5 years, we have a low turn out at Dayton. However, since 1997 when I took this race over from Fred Miller, the race has been in August and it has been the weekend before Labor Day since 1999. Two years ago (the last time we had the record runs since the Nats were there in 2005), we had 185 entries just for Saturday so I'm not too concerned about the turnout. As long as the racers in the Midwest and the East want to have Dayton, and the club isn't bankrupt, we'll have it.

I'm open to suggestions on how to improve it as always. Maybe a different size course (1/2mile; 1-1/4; 1-2/3???); Refuse to let the Chief Referee have the karoke microphone??? Whatever you think will help. But I will continue to have this event since we need it for drivers in the Midwest and the East to have a shot at the Hall of Champions.

By the way, Kevin: If you think the 14-H thing is a problem, put your money where your mouth is: You agree (in writing) to run the race for 10 years and loan the club money when it needs it and I'll step aside. Ed.

Sam: Brian did appeal to the Racing Commission (I testified before the MORC in support of his position) but chose not to appeal to the BOD so if this is a reference to J.Michael Kelly's appeal to the BOD, it is a little misleading.

I'm really glad, though, that Brian's record will go in the books as having been set at Dayton rather than Florida. Congratulations to him. Brian is a hellova driver. Ed.
