Baton Rouge, LA 70815. Viewing to be held Tuesday, September 28 from 5pm to 8pm and services to be held Wednesday, September 29 at 2pm.
Don leaves behind his wife, Emma Lou, and a daughter, Donna, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Don was a boat racer in the 500cc Hydroplane and 700cc Hydroplane classes. Don built a 500cc Yamaha that he built from scratch and ran it on his knell-down Yale Hydroplane L-81. (See photo included). Don was committed to boat racing and was one of the “founders” of the US Title Series in 1983 and sat on the Board of the US Title Series. Emma Lou was by his side as she was a volunteer on the Judge’s Stand for many years.
After quitting racing, Don became the US Title Series Referee, which included all the races as well as the Nationals in DePue. When Don retired from his referee position, Don continued to perform engine work for many of the boat racers. He always was there to help everyone out. Don continued to attend races with Emma Lou in their motorhome. Don was instrumental in procuring boat races for the US Title Series in Alexandria, LA and in Lake Village, AR.
When Don wasn’t racing, refereeing or reworking engines, Don was an insurance adjuster. After Don retired from full-time work, Don was hired to be an insurance adjuster for other insurance companies when many major storms occurred.
Please remember Emma Lou, Donna and his grand and great grand children in your thoughts. Don, we will see you in the first turn! Thank you for all that you did for the US Title Series.
