  • Boat racing enjoys benefits

Having started with a KG4 some 60 years ago and I have been deeply involved in the sport for most of those years, I marvel at the opportunities we have in our sport. I have used most of the motors during that time period except the Koeing and the Sidewinder. I am glad someone has built a American motor, but we don't race the Sidewinder in our part of the country. The Yamato has filled our needs during most of those years with a dependable and Cheap motor. A used motor purchased at 1/10th of the cost of a new Yamato. I purchased a new motor in 1976 and it was no faster than the used motors that I had. Some of the features that I like; the motor does not seem to get faster after blue printing(we have only hand information), the 302 seems able to rebound after getting hot, the 302's electronic ignition system is trouble free even when it gets wet, no broken crank shafts and carborator is easy to adjust. My only complaint is the over all weight is a problem. I see other fishing motor used as racing motors and the Yamatos are the most dependable. Many times, Yamatos are purchased, raced for twenty years and then sold for the same price as the original purchased price. Amazing.
