  • Need some help for a marathon boat for gathering data for a proposed new class

If you were in Region 1 over the weekend, you probably saw Jeff Brewster testing a sealed motor in CSR. I'm on the 302SSH Hydro committee, and am proposing that we start to collect data for a sealed runabout class to bring a new class proposal to the national meeting. I'm hoping this will help drive the runabout class, as the 302 Hydro has been a great success. A lot of runabout drivers I have talked to, are very excited, and now it's time to get the right specifications in and tested for a safe, fun ride. To do this, I'm asking for some help. Thanks to a few Region 6 drivers, we have a test boat for short course, but I'm looking for a marathon boat as well. Can you imagine a sealed marathon class where the speeds are the same, and it comes to driver skill? 10 of them in Indian river under the bridge at the same time? Anyways, I have had numerous offers to borrow a boat, but due to height restrictions, I can't accept the offer of a loaner, because we need to cut down the transom. Do you have a C marathon boat your not using? If this price is right, I'm in the market immediately. Please let me know. I would love to start gathering data as early as Trenton this weekend.

For the test data, I'm planning on finding a suitable ride, and then placing a number of different drivers in Region 6 races on the course. I'll pay for the entrance fees, and the SORC has provided a motor for testing, we just need to find the hull.

When it comes to boat racing and the wife, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission, and of course I spent a number of nights sleeping on the couch!
