Just got home last night from attending the 2005 NBRA Nationals, held in Centralia, IL.
All I can say is that had to be the best water I have been on in a long time. Very, very good race course. Similar to Dayton OH only more room on the water. Pit area was small but manageable with some understanding.
If you missed this, I am sorry, you all missed a well run race. The town was really behind this; they actually blocked off the main road to the Pit area, and had the spectators shuttle bussed in to watch. And yes, there were spectators. Sunday I saw the shuttle bus at least 4 or 5 times an hour taking people to and from the parking area over a mile away. The money was there for sponsorship, along with COUNTLESS goodwill from folks.
I think boat racing owes Alan Owen a big thanks for showing us it can be done. Alan, if you read this, a HUGE thank you for everything, I know you were some stressed about this since like March. Well, buddy, you pulled it off big time. The party at Greens Bar Sat night was a blast, thanks to ODA for buying the beer, and the BBQ was good eats.
Some of the results I recall (mine don't count, I broke two lower units)
Lyle Mason - EMH (APBA DMH)
John Sharp - SEH (APBA FEH) His first ever Nationals, CONGRATS buddy, you earned it !!!
Jerry Muncey - BMH
Rick Miller - B1H (APBA 25MH)
Bryan Tharpe - 102MH (APBA CMH)
I know there are others and my foggy mind can't remember them all.
Congrats, and I would recommend this course to anyone in the country. Very nice place to race.
