  • A class Sidewinder

Jack ran at Tabor this weekend and there were 5 or so sidewinders in the 10 boat ASH field , He was one of the faster OMC boats - the Sidewinder is running well in the A class and 3 of the sidewinders were owned by George had great A drivers They were the Class of the field . The sidewinders ran well in A and should make the class a great " buy and race" motor . I would not make any changes to the Sidewinder . To keep the OMC competative as they are slowly replaced I would recomend a hight change. let the OMC run faster -Dont try to slow the Sidewinder down. Perhaps try 1 inch on the omc with the 1/2 tuck rule and see how the run/

Any OMC A drivers want to start a petition to keep the SW15 out of A?

Put the SW15 into 15SS and keep it out of ASH and ASR. Just like the Y80 and Y302 guys are trying to keep the SW20 out of 20SSH.

    Discuss...JK...sorta.

I have ran my fah or 200mh years ago at 1/2 below the bottem, this will help the omc alot if they would raise the moter to 1" or 7/8" below the bottem.i have tried this and it would help the omc guys alot.

        petition

While your at it, start a petition to bring back the Mercury Mark15/K4H A motors. The A classes would be booming with competitors. They would have such a bright future with so many inexpensive motors available. I'm sure that Mercury and Bombardier would ramp up parts production for their old Merc Evinrude and Johnson motors just for stock outboard racers. Yeah, this is the way to a bright future.

The key to any successful organization is having members micromanage every decision. Just look at all of the successful groups who run this way.

(Amazingly, some will probably agree with this post...)

          I'm not starting a petition, I don't want to start a petition.

          We're working on 200cc mod.

We want a member run organization, we hear this every year….we want to be heard, we have rules in place to make sure we are heard…a lot of the same people that thought it was great last year when the members stood up for Matt were heard, but now some of those same people are upset when other members want to be heard. Can’t have it both ways.

We have a very competitive OMC A and choose not to race when against the SW because if they are running correctly (like any motor), we don't have a chance in ASH. As such, we choose to run 200MH when we can along with AXH. We got two new boats and motors for 2013 to race in different classes and plan on one new boat and at least one new motor for 2014. We are not going to invest in a SW program as it does not make sense from a value perspective. Rather, AX and 200MH, then 302SSH, 20SSH (assuming it is a Yamato class), and CSH. I know many others who have done the same, especially as their kids grow too big for AX or A. If there are changes to make the OMC stock competative to a running SW, we would run ASH.

Yes the members were heard. They were heard saying "We want to stand behind the decision made by the SORC. Yes...the same SORC that makes all those ****ty decisions.

I'm not sure that is what they were saying...well leave it at that, we discussed that issue enough last year.

No one ever said all, just some of the commission decisions are bad in my opinion. No one out there can say every decision has been good. It’s just like every other topic in the world, you have two sides to everything.

Maybe we could discuss grandfathering all the records again as a starting point. I know Nuch would love for us to bring that up again. LOL

                    Stay on target

I am not for eliminating the Sidewinder in A, or bringing back green tankers, or reviewing old records . I am for making the OMC motor more competative as it is the staple motor in A for now . Do not change the Sidewinder. I am sure the Sidewinder is the motor of the future in A . Lets keep the class growing , not drive people away with their older motors.

No post ever stays on target. LOL

Good job reeling us back in.

Here is a question for you, taking the OMC to 1" will do what? What will the RPM's be? What kind of speed increase will that get you?

It's pretty clear that SW is the future (and present) of A. The question that may need to be addressed is how fast should A be? It's not unrealistic to think a SW ASH can go 60 mph.

Should both motors be slowed down?

                          Mike,
That's a can of worms some of us have been kicking around for five or six years. I think most of us would like the class to go a bit slower, but making that happen may be unrealistic with multiple motors in a class.

                              Thanks John,
I know there has been some talk about increased weights or lowered heights. Just wasn't sure if that was still being considered.
