  • If you look closely, you'll see ski hooks for tie downs. Never much of a fisherman, the down riggers and rod holders weren't installed - LOL!

So many others have fully rig'd fish'n boats for a day on the up side of a hook anyway but it could use recessable, insulated, gimbled drink holders.

Whew - I sure forgot how long it takes to rig a new boat. Electrics, test fire, and all systems go for lake trials. Cross fingers it behaves!

      • Tim, the rig looks great. The only thing you'll need is the class designation on the sides. I assume it's a D. I'd put the D before the number using the same style numbers. The white background needs to be solid but you may be able to get by with what you've got. Jack

          Hey Jack,

Sure enough the beast is a "D" (and 850cc Mod and 1100cc Pro). I didn't see a rule that requires the class identifier and presume it is optional, but can add that easy enough. My interpretation is the background must be a solid color, as I've seen numerous examples of both styles in the APBA image gallery. The full field background was tried first, but looked ugly due to the compound shapes of the chine (see image). Numbers as applied are highly visible, so no problem is expected. If the judges don't like it, a roll of white tape will be on hand to satisfy them. Thanks for the heads up!

          • I agree that your numbers, as they are, look great! Just wanted to give you the heads up as you do not want to scramble Sat morning at Indian River. Top O, in the past, required the class identifier for the scorers that are enroute at the various checkpoints. Sometimes the D merc looks a lot like the 25XS. You sure don't want to run that whole trip and not be counted at one of the check points along the way. They have them because in years past some folks came up with some rather innovative methods of not running the entire route. Jack

Your explanation makes sense. Boat racers will be boat racers: Taking full advantage of the rule (Mmmm, seems I'm known for that in Mod!). The class letter "D" will be added per your recommendation. Thanks again,

Splash down yesterday was a great success. Two hours testing proved the hull does not pound at all, and handles snotty water/wakes faster than I could ever imagine: Tail dances with a little walk that corrects itself. Very comfortable. So far, so good. Might go again today.

                  Hi Tim,
The boat looks great. Any idea on speed?

                    Hi Alan,

Not instrumented and 1-1/4" below setup for learning the hull, but felt 65-70ish. Raised the engine to 3/4" and leaving shortly with tach & GPS to pull numbers. More later.

All the best at Top O this year.

                        Thanks Al,

Just back from the lake, very rough with 19MPH wind. Going up 1/2" really loosened it up. 70.1 downwind was plenty fast - about blew it over into the wind! Gotta spend a full day testing where less of the public is present. Cross fingers it works well at Mullet.

Don't forget to remind him to round the pickles off..........we don't want to see him run through Troy's boat and break it!

A public service announcement!! No charge!
