  • Hysol and me had one hell of a party this weekend!

Congrats to Pavlick and Pater for their HOC inductions, especially when they race in the toughest classes on the water. Which is why I'm building this little guy - to goal is to lead them around the course, not follow them!

      • Some thought really needs to go into these pickle fork rules by someone that knows boat building. Its no problem getting a bigger radius but not all boats have a thickness in the outer edge of the sponson the get the thickness of 3/4 all the way across especially the smaller boats that are already built. I cut three inches off the pickles already on the new A boats back as far as I can go and the distance across the radius is 2 and a half inches and still cant get the 3/4 inch thickness at the outer edge but have 1 and 1/4 at the inside edge.

        • George,
That is why we had a different rule. Many of us will have to build up the thickness of the outside of the sponson from underneath.

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

True parity is one motor per class.

          • Sponson tips

Would it be legal to just, blunt the tip of the pickle enough to West on rectangular piece of 1/4 inch plywood?

If you can understand what I am suggesting Would that pass the rule?

            Thanks,

            • Looking at the top view of the diagram, the area between the two 45 degree lines must be
3/4" thick from top of deck to bottom of the shoe.

Hey John, not sure if your response was based on my question or not. I do not have the diagram, but I think I understand the problem (not sure though)

My question is, if I don't want to keep knocking the sponson back to meet the radius, or build up the outside of the sponson. Can i just attack a square or circular piece to the tip of my sponson. The thickness of the piece could be 3/4 of an inch, I guess, if that was the problem? Would that be legal?

                Thanks,
                Dean

                • Put a small chunk on

It would be legal to glue a small piece on the top and or bottom to achive the thicknes dimension in the radius area Jhn is refferring to.

Or a cap to cover the end.

                  • I 5 min epoxy balsa blocks for the end of the pickles so they are really break away tips, hit them with a Hammer and they break right off. Then the tip is blunt 2 and a half inches across and the thickness of the deck, framing and sponson bottom also at that point the vertical air trap end is 2 and a half inches high ans blunt.

                        • Just got and installed the brand new Kneeler throttle from Machined Components.. Boat is now totally done.. I will add the throttle is very light and has throttle lock and easy to install. I will say Lee has always had a laydown throttle but this is his first Kneeler throttle and it is a winner

Tom if you look close on the inside picture you will see a little button sticking out on the front of the throttle silver in color. It make for a very simple mechanism to hold the throttle in two different positions

                              • I sure wish my shop was someplace warm

I have gone through about $100 worth of propane in the last 2 weeks trying to get glue to kick

I am done raising hell on hydroracer for a while, but I would like to know why the picklefork rule was changed? I'm just really glad now that I didn't get my boats painted last year. Where is the diagram you guys are referring to? Is it the PRO one out of the book?
