    • Copied right from SOA Facebook

Stock and j has aligned with pro and mod category about pickle fork radius. What does this mean? The new radius for all boats in stock and j will be 1" radius. This will make all hydro pickle forks blunter and safer.

      1" radius = 2" diameter

        • I do not have a problem with the 1 in radius. However, many older boats do have the structure at the pickle tip to support a 2 inch diameter tip. You cut the pickle tip off and some boats will have a hole. attached is a picture that I did to a pickle on a Hemp that I built.

Are older boats grandfathered in ? Meaning this rules is for boat being built?

              • My understanding is no Grandfather. All boats old and new must be hacked up

                • Sorry Mike I misunderstood what the measurement was I was thinking edge to edge which is two inches. Getting two inches on the small boats isnt a problem its trying to get the 3/4 thick part on the small boats as the edge of the sponson isnt that thick anywhere along it. The inner part next to the airtrap is thick its the outer part the is thin.

I think the rules still allow grandfathered MOD hulls built on or before October 31, 2007 to have pointy pickleforks. There is no such date in the "book" for STOCK hydros. They must all be hacked up.

That's the way I read it anyway. I'll defer to the rule writers if my interpretation is wrong or been superseded.

Is ridged/spray foam an acceptable filler when cut'n an old rig? (is there a spec on that?)......I think thats how Matt did my black Altralite with carbon cloth over it........

                      • Is this still just for hydros or are runabouts going to be added?

                        • I just had to wack another inch and a half off the new boats to get the 2 inch radius. Good thing I keep alot of balsa blocks around...lol

                            • Pickle....

We should grandfather nothing. Its over just saw them off and laminate a little piece of obeche to make the thickness. If the pickle is out greatest hazard then it is a hazard on every boat that enters the race course, not just the new ones. Fix'em all and move on.

Pro also has the UIM pickle fork rule as in the rule book.
