One nice thing has happened over here. Since so many folks have chain saws, ATV's, boats and snowmobiles we now have premium gas at all of the town pumps with no Ethanol. Yup, every gas station has no ethanol at the premium pumps. That stuff was tearing up everyones equipment if it was not used up in 3 weeks time. Cost us $500 to fix both of our ATV's. The stuff eats rubber seals and sends the stuff thru the fuel system.
So we won't have a problem with our fuel. If you need good gas stop by and say "HI"Mike - One of the Montana Boys

Spent the whole weekend waiting for a break in the weather. Finally got about a two hour opening so we broke in our rebuilt engine and ran the new boat a little. Unfortunately we did not get to play much but it was fun for a first ride in a Laydown. The wife took 369 pictures in those two hours so here are a few.Mike - One of the Montana Boys

This was a learning experience having never been in a laydown before. I have a couple problems to work out.
One was keeping my helmet above my eyes. The jacket kept pushing it down.
Also my glasses kept coming off? I would wear a strap but I have to take them off to get my helmet on.
Since I was use to kneeling the fact you can't lean in the corners is unsettling but yes Daren, I did open it up a couple times but I don't think we have the mixture quite right or the set up. The first run took for ever to get on plane. The motor bogged down. Lean the mixture out three clicks the second run and she took right off with no problem but then the wind came up and we froze to death. I did notice that with the pipe if you let off the throttle fast it is like throwing out an anchor. Also most of the picture were taken while cornering around our chase boat.
I must say the boat turned easy and tracked perfect when going in a strait line. The throttle did come undone at the throttle handle but I just put lock tight on the double set screw set up and no more problems. It is nice when these thing happen before a race. I must say we were not on the water very long but the speed was the only disapointment.
Today my neck and arms hurt but not my hips like driving a kneeler.

Just a short note to thank you all for the great personel messages with advice and ideas. I am putting them all into good use. We need a bunch more testing time but I found out April in Montana is still a little cold to work the bugs out of a brand new boat.

When I took my Pro hydro for a ride as a laydown, I have to admit going into the corner at 95MPH for the first time and turning enough to stay close to the pins sure taught me a lesson. I learned to trust the design and the boat. I actually now would feel more comfortable turning a laydown wide open than a kneeler in MOD. However, the only drawback I did not like was the sight picture. I could see just fine both left and right. But it seems the kneelers had trouble seeing me. See, in the laydown I could turn much faster and change lanes in the corner if I wanted to, where a kneeler would need to set the boat, I did not have to, I just turned.
I just did not like looking up at my competitor as i went by, or they went by me. Makes it harder to see when they flip you the bird ! (Josh).
I am sure you received a lot of opinions on how to keep your helmet above your eyebrows, so I won't address that.
Just remember one thing, trust your boat. Enjoy the ride. Personally I liked to be less inclined than you look in the pics. It was a lot easier on the back and neck.Dave Mason

As far as the glasses and helmet go not a lot of solutions there except to get contacts. But then wouldn't you need sunglasses.
I increased the slope of the ramp so that my vision was not of the top of my helmet. It would take a lot of trust to not see where I was going.
I got some great set up ideas and yes, to trust the boat design. Also lots of comments to keep water away from the pipe. I still have some new props for us to try weather permitting including a four blade.
