Everyone who has posted here has had there stuff worked on. Lets figure out how to transition all the engines we have to work with. The economy may lead us down a different path to keep everyone happy. The sidewinder makes sense and we have a challenge and an obligation to find a way to fit it in with all the other options out there. What's cool is we can change things as we go along to accommodate for what needs to be done and makes sense. Mikey
20ss '07 Nationals & Winter Nationals. we ran a stock 302 with cc's to spare. I also put new rings in the motor that won CSH Nationals in '07 & '08. nothing special going on in that motor either.

Well maybe you got that super 302 out of the box and that is great. But the fact is there are a huge number of racers with 302's that have been torn completly down and gone through to try to improve there performance. As long as the 102 is winning this will not stop. As a 30 plus year racer this has been going on for decades. My dad shares stories with me and dewey. As long as we are racers it our natual instinct to try to make things go faster. When the sidewinders get on the circut heavy someone will try to improve that engine to. Mikey

I agree with that 100%, and I also have no problem tearing it down, sending it to the machine shop, etc, to try & go faster.

And Dana I used to have more respect for you but if you’re going to start taking side with people the spew BS might have to change that opinion. Not that you give a crap about what I think about you, but I do respect you and your opinion. A small withdraw was taken out of your account for agreeing with Troy's BS.
If you have the facts, please share them.

You guys are wound tight. First off I was having fun with Matt. Nothing was factual nor was that my intent ( I was trying to get a simple point accross to Matt). Matt and I are friends and we were simply having fun with this. Yes, having fun because that’s the way I see it, the same heated discussions happening every year and nothing really ever changes. So back up and if anyone wants to address me do so next time you see me at a race. I'd be more than happy to have the conversations that seem to never happen in the pits and only behind computer screens.

If I have a point it's simply this. The idea of buying a race ready motor that needs little to know investment is a good thing and I support it. The bull**** aside I think this is the concept Dana was agreeing with.

It appears you called the wrong number because the quantities you provided are not accurate.

There are currently fifteen (15) Mercury 15 "J/AX" engines in stock for usage in J/AX. APBA purchased 10 gearcases from Racing Outboards in 2009. There are six (6) gearcases left. Four (4) went with engines that were sold this year.

There were approximately 17 engines sold between 2008 and 2009. At the same rate APBA will have enough engines to last about 2 more years.

The Mercury 15 2-stroke is still being manufactured for export and if APBA gets close to depleting it's current supply, I'm sure another order will be placed.

Mark please see my response to Mr. Allen. I will however give you some credit. This is the first time I've ever seen real information on the Merc. Not once in my (2) years on the S.O. commission was this much information provided to support any voting decisions. So why did it take a little banter between me and Matt for the rest of the world to find out the details (rhetorical question)? Maybe this is common knowledge in the Midwest and on the J committee but trust me most of us don’t have real facts.

While we're on the topic of test data..........

It's also absurd when we change heights, head spec's, etc. with no data.

                    • Troy, You were on the commission for 2 years, did you ever make the call yourself to find out the information you wanted on the Mercury? And I know it’s been posted on here in the last two years by both the Wheeler’s.

As for the 800.00 comment…you made it and we are supposed to just know that you are kidding? My point is people read the stuff on here and assume that it’s accurate especially when it’s such a hot topic. .

I knew it was BS and thought you were just trying to bad mouth the Mercury.

I know you have what you feel is the best intent for boat racing as do we, let’s just keep it real and accurate.

And as for hiding behind a computer if you knew me you would know I am not hiding. I tell it the way it is no matter what.

And don’t let Bill & Mike fool you….they are not that nice.

Mercury as a topic came into to play in year (2), my last year and yes I knew it was on the agenda prior to the meeting. I didn't feel the need to dig through these posts nor make a phone call to APBA. Each meeting starts with a manufacturers report. My expectation was that a full and accurate report on the Merc be provided to the S.O. category commissioners. I'd argue that this wasn't the case. Mark has posted more information in this thread than I was ever made aware of. Shame on me for expecting a manufacturer to deliver this information at the time of the meeting.

Fair enough. My exaggeration was used to support a point. My point being that if I can buy a new motor and not have to send it out to be blueprinted…………well you know the rest.
I knew it was BS and thought you were just trying to bad mouth the Mercury.
It may seem that way but I'm really not. In the same breath I think people should lay off of and fully support Racing Outboards with the same passion they support the Merc with. Hope that clears the record.

Big Don is right! If you want a Team Pavlick tee-shirt this year you better get your facts straight.

I might suggest inviting them into your new trailer(wet bar equipped) for a cocktail at the Winter Nationals along with Meskerik, Big Don and Stillwill. There is nothing like a $200 dollar jug of Patron to mend fences!

On a serious note. Troy and i are best of friends and sometimes engage in comic relief. Hydroracer serves as an un-official conduit to express opinions and share in some good natured banter along the way. We both share a passion for our sport and have no pre-concieved favorites in terms of engine, boat or propeller manufactures. All we look at is how can folks like Mercury, Bass, Racing Outboards LLC and OMC etc. etc. benefit Stock Outboarding. Not the other way around!!
