Picture # 1 is Haverhill, Massachusetts, June 27, 1960 at the Crescent Yacht Club. The BU winner was Larry Castagneto in the 1US boat, second from the left. 2nd place was Bill Lionhardt, Bronx, NY and 3rd was James Palomba from Arlington, Massachusetts.

Where did you find this picture??

I believe that you are correct. Remember how soft & deep the sandy beach was? Difficut carrying the boats in to & out of the water.

Dave is correct on this picture. Floating dock. Had to carry boats from out front of the club house which is to the left of the dock down the ramp & on to the docks. This is where they started & finish the "Around Manhattan" Marathon. 2 laps around. Treacherous waters where the Harlem & East rivers came together then there was the extremely rough Hudson River. All the rivers were full of ground swels & the Harlem & East river also had waves created by the seawall.
We ran a regular heat race ther one time & while leading CSH I stuffed it. When I surfaced there was a Turd floating nearby!!!!

Interesting comparison, but one thing is for sure, the water is a lot cleaner up in the 1000 Islands.

I have a vague memory of my dad racing (and winning?) a marathon in a Thousand Islands in the early sixties. My mom listened to the race on a radio.

Hi John, thanks for the marathon pictures. I have just been informed that the picture showing the 66N runabout, behind him is the late George Scudder former 36 national champion. George had an origional picture showing his poka dot helmet clearly. George ran a D size Hal Kelly Airborne. George did his prop work either over rocks or trailer hitches which ever was at hand.
