Friday Update

Thursday night at 10:00 PM there were already 13 boats in the pits! It is cloudy this AM but NO rain. Pits look great! Less than 5 knots of breeze forecast for the whole weekend. It looks like the Low will pass south and we may avoid the Ohio valley rain altogether?
Carl Holt, the Race Director, is testing today so it appears it is approved. We're rigging the JH and JR right now. More later Mike Marshall, Raceboat 61-S

Rick Wagners 1st race in 24 years!!

TRORA'S own Papa Bear, or as he calls himself now the "Koolaide Man", raced his 1st race in 24 years this Saturday, and what a fine job he did. He had some mechanical difficulties getting his brand new CSR on the water, so his son Skippy did only what a son would do, let his dad drive his! As you can see from the pics, all on shore came to offer an opinion, and advise on what we needed to do to get him on the water. Brought tears to all of our eyes! I believe there were 4 boats, 2 jumped in the first heat, and he finished 1st? Need to clarify with the scorers, and I did not see the 2nd heat. Congrats Rick,,,job well done.

I kept asking his pit crew, Skippy and Ian Augustine if they were going to pick him up and throw him in since he could technically be a rookie after all this time, but I did not get any takers.

I take that back, it was Ian and Brian Williams that was pit crew in the water to get Rick out.... still I had no takers to lift and toss him... man they need to eat their Wheaties in the morning!

It was great to see Big Rick get on the water and even better to see him and Skippy going deck to deck around the race course. And anytime I can get mistaken for Skippy with my shirt off, I'm not complaining. I guess that ab cruncher is paying off after all.

Curwesville had near perfect water, great weather and killer racing on the water. For those that came, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I burned almost 7 gals of fuel and a gal of oil this weekend.

Big Thanks to Jerry Brewster for running a great show on the stand, Jon Brewster for manning the Mic all weekend - I doubt he can talk today. All the racers who pulled turnboat and judges stand duty (sometimes double duty) and for the racers on the water who put on a great show for the crowd.

To Carl Holt and company for the effort to put on a nice holiday race. It was a GREAT touch to see the sponsoring club actually give out awards to the drivers in all the classes that won! With gas, hotels, entry fees and other race expenses at a all time high, it is nice to see clubs rewarding the drivers for their efforts.

See you next year. Hopefully, more of the TRORA folks will support their own race next time around..............
