I always thought growing up would be cool, I was wrong!
The other day GG laughed at me because I take more pills a day than she does....

        Here's our Pop

John Leo “Pop” Augustine, 90, died in Bowie, Maryland of natural causes. He lived in Washington, DC area his whole life. As a young man, he worked as an instructor at the apprentice school at the Washington Navy Yard. He was also a precision instrument maker and, later in his life, a patent researcher. Mr. Augustine served as a captain in the Maryland State Guard and served in the USMC reserve and the USMC during World War II.

Pop belonged to the National Rifle Association; the National Hot Rod Association and local affiliate, the Gents Roadster Association; Clowns of America; Civitan; and the Boy Scouts of America. He also volunteered at charity events as a clown named "Popzykle", entertaining young and old alike.

He loved fast cars, fast motorcycles and, most of all, fast boats. He was a 50 year member of the American Power Boat Association, racing outboard hydroplanes and winning regional high point trophies many times. He officiated at national championships and served on numerous Region 4 and national committees. His love of boat racing engendered enthusiasm in those around him and many of his children, grandchildren and friends joined him in what became a lifelong family passion.

According to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren he could "fix anything" and they were always taking "unfixable" items to him for repair.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Lucille Salmon Augustine, who resides in Bowie, Maryland. He is also survived by three sons, J. David Augustine, Sr., and wife, Pat, of Laurel, MD., Thomas L. Augustine and wife, Barbara of Woodbridge, VA. and Gary W. Augustine and wife, Barbra Phillips, of Alexandria, VA and one daughter, Judith A. Hicks and husband, John of Warwick, NY. as well as 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was well loved and will be greatly missed. A quote from John Wesley best sums up John / Dad / Pop's life:
"Do all the good you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as you ever can."

The Augustine family deeply appreciates the kind words and expressions of sympathy. Pop's values will continue to guide our family for many years to come.
