  • Widow of Outboard Racing Pioneer Passes

I'm not sure how many racers are left who would remember Clyde Wiseman, founder of the Wiseco Piston Company. Back in the early days of outboard racing Clyde was a pioneer in our sport. Not only in the piston fabrication, but also outboard racing gearcases. Clyde's widow Jannette, passed away a few days back. She was a resident in an assisted living home where my wife is a caregiver.
I have heard stories from my Dad (Bob Wagner) and my cousin (Lamont Munson). They tell of Jannette working in the machine shop right along with her husband, to meet production demands when the business was getting started. I was also told that Jannette raced outboard utility in local Cleveland, Ohio Boat Club Regattas. My mother and grandmother raced in these Ladies Chance Regattas as well. I am posting her obituary from the local paper and a link to the online page. After reading her obituary, I think I can proclaim that she in addition to her husband Clyde were pioneers of our sport.

    Rick Wagner Sr.
