Here it is straight and simple. Unless sales improve we're going to lose Bass Machines and along with it the D Tohatsu.
Sales? Yes. Sales of all the parts Bass Machines makes: Towers, gears, gearhousings, shafts...
And, if I can't get this stuff, I can't build the Tohatsu RAM50
In an effort to promote cross-utilization of the engine in Stock and Mod, Bass is working on a tower which will have the capability of running in 850 mod with a tuner. The new tower mold will not affect stock performance, but will allow the easy installation of a tuner virtually between heats. The tuner will bolt directly to the bottom of the Tohatsu factory powerhead in the same location and manner as the original item.
The long range objective is to make the engine useable in both the stock and mod category, but the real goal is to be able to sell more parts and assemblies in order to remain in business.
Economy of scale is extremely important when items must be cast and heat treated, or parts purchased in bulk. The profit margin is extremely slim
