  • USTS At Johnson City TN for the final round of the year

2017’s season is coming to an end after a very successful series of races this year, with a 15% surge in entries at the US Title Series Nationals at the Depue Men’s Club Lake Depue Nationals. The final round of the US Title Series will take place this weekend in Johnson City Tn. and we have a race and some of our Florida drivers and families are in a race with Irma. Hopefully it remains off shore and all will be well for them.

There are still a number of classes still to be run this weekend which will determine the Hi Point Champion for 2017.

In K-Pro only 250 points separate Mackenzie Hellsten and Brady Brinkman for the Hi Point win as Brady won the Nationals at Depue earlier this year.

    Brady 1800

In 125H David Tenny has an insurmountable lead and won the National Championship as well.

125R remains a contested final race as Brad Dygert leads Paul Bosnich and Brianna Payn, with first to third spot separated by only 339 points. Should be a good go here.

In 175H Brad Dygert leads David Tenny, trying to double up on Hi Points, by 81 points with Ray Hammond only 370 points behind Brad, so this race will be the decision maker.

In 250H, as my Dad used to say, “it’s mixed up like cement. Amy Nydahl leads with 1380 points with her brother Kurt in 4th with 1035 points, while Eric Schmidt a mere 5 points back of Amy, while Chris Hellsten is just 155 points behind. This has been such a fun class to watch all year as one or another ends up out front and the points have changed all year.

250R JJ Walls who won two titles at the Nationals leads Tim Small by a scant 122 points as we head to the final round while Rich Krier is lurking back with a short fall of 239 points behind JJ>
In 350H Amy Nydahl has run away with the title for the Hi Point and has been fast and consistent year long and she leads by a wide margin.

In 350R again JJ Walls leading his second class that he won the Nationals in and now leads Brian Payn by 450 points to take the title.
In 500H, it is no contest as the venerable Dan Kirts winning the Nationals as well as winning the Hi Point Championship as well. Dan has been racing so long, that I remember as a kid at Depue, just in awe of the whole Kirts family, Dad Mel, Dan, Tom and Jerry. When they showed at a race, you knew they were prepared and ready to do battle.
Tim Small in 500R after winning the Nationals at Depue, finds himself with an insurmountable lead for the Hi Point Championship as well.

In 700R Austin Van Over leads Andrew Thirlby in the Thirlby Automotive double entries by 350 points so it is still up for grabs at Johnson City.

Amy Nydahl has at the very least a double in the hunt for Hi Point Championships as she also has a lead that no one can catch her here in 1100H. She is hoping for the triple play with the 250H Hi Point yet to be determined.

My thanks to Todd Brinkman our leader who has lead the Title Series to be the premier Pro group in the country. His leadership has given us the boost that has brought a great relationship with sponsors, drivers, and crew. Our thanks Todd.

Let me not also forget Sue Sailer, Denise Eldredge, Rick Jedwabny and their merry band of helpers in registration and on the judges stand. Outstanding work by these folks, who without, we are dead in the water.
