  • Saturday at the worlds

The day did not start well as word came that Nic Thompson, son of Denise Eldredge, passed today a number of years after a devistating testing accident left him severley injured. In a hymn, it is written and should we die before our journy's thru, happy day, all is well, and I truly believe for Nic, that is true as he faced many trials lately. I believe if the Good Lord had a refrigerator, Nic's picture is on it. Many thanks Brandon, well done young man, well done. The Italians came, they saw, the conquered pretty well sums up the O-125H racing today. Not without struggles, and certainly without controversy. Alex Ziliol, who blew over Friday testing, went out and won the first two heats, with Manuel Zambelli winning the 3rd after protesting his disqualification for lane violation at the start. The protest was upheld and now Zambelli had a leg up, as Zilioli finished 6th to Zambelli's two seconds and a first. This put Zilioli in jeparady, as he now would start the 4th heat in the 6th lane while Zambelli had the pole. Using this to his advantage Zambelli got out front while Zilioli struggled in the middle of the pack in the first lap. Zambelli led for a couple of laps only to see his chances at another world crown collapse in the first turn, as the engine died. Zilioli had begun to move and got to 2nd place at the end Daniele Frontoni winning and helping him to the podium. Zilioli Zambelli Frontoni In 500R, Tim Small got out front in the Rossi 440 and led a number of laps with Derek Gesler chasing him and caught Tim when the motor loaded up for a bit, Gessler, Kurt Nydahl, yes you read that right, and Small. In the second heat Small got out front and was never headed, as Gessler began to fade back. Thinking he had motor trouble, he ended up 4th, but it was very apparent when he got to the beach, he had a hole in the bottom that actually blew part of the deck off as well. Still have two heats tomorrow. 1100H started off with a bang, literally, as Ike Yoder and Doug Hall collided milling after the one minute gun. Doug went over with a huge hole in the sponson, Ike was able to limp back to the beach.Dan Kirts, Ike, and Fred Mason worked their magic and hope to have Ike on the water tomorrow. In the mean time, Amy Nydahl took both heats with Yvonne Koenig finishing 2nd and 3rd, with Marian Jung, driving a borrowed boat finished 2nd and did not start. O-250H. Claudio Fanzini and Zambelli traded heat wins, with Chris Hellsten and Mike Scmidt finishing with 2nd's and 3rd's in the heats, two more tomorrow.
