  • Transom handle

After some advice on transom handles on the back of stock hydros, I'm going to install a couple on my boat. What's the proper way to fasten them on, screws, bolt with a thread insert?

I use screws, I apply a good bead of silicone to the flange of the handle, drill a pilot hole and tighten securely making sure the silicone totally seals the handle flange. When the silicone is set, trim off the excess

Wood screws are marginal, with silicone is better. Better still is machine screws with T-Nuts and silicone.

If you can get to back side, stainless t nuts because screws will pull out just as soon as someone tries to pick boat out of water to help start motor. It'll happen sooner or later
