  • want to buy first hydro

i am new to this board and i do not type. i have looked at all of the available plans and don't think that i can build one. in high school (was 140lbs) i drove a glenL tiny titan. it was too small, then. i am now about 170 lbs and and looking for a pickle fork (like what is on this site) i guess at least 10 - 11 feet long. i live in the lower florida keys and will most likely need shipping on it. i am not looking to race- just to have fun w/ on calm days. ANY info on where to buy one would be greatly appreciated as they are never on ebay. also, what size stock motor should i put on it based on my weight (don't want to sink it). thank you.

Since you just want to play on the lake get a big boat like an old FEH or DMH that way you can put up to a 50hp motor and still be fairly safe if you ever get it up to speed. Or get an old DMR these are big boats that will decrease you chance of getting hurt if you over power it. Also keep in mind none of the boats on this web site will accept a fishing motor mid section, they are to long.

Just playing on the lake with a small hydro that is over powered can end in disaster real fast! Also remember to wear some sort of helmet and life jacket even if you plan to just play on the lake, don't let a fun day end tragic.

This would make a great lake boat, again the only problem is the transom on race hulls are not set up for long shaft fishing motors and even if they were a fishing motor is going to be top heavy so you need to a find a old race motor to go with it. You won't have much fun on the lake with a pickle fork hydro design, you need to a find a big old runabout to have any fun on the lake, that way you could even take a friend for a ride if its a big enough old runabout.

I gave you a few ideas but honestly you are not going to find much on this web site for just having fun. Everything here is going to be a race hull and not design for just playing around.

Try Scream and Fly where you can find tons of old STV hulls that will fit your needs.

                To paleohydro

                To paleohydro,

I would buy C Stock Hydro equipment. That way you will have invested money that will be worth something later.

Run the motor deep on the transom at first.

Call Tom Cronk..... he lives in Lakeland....... 863-665-5449. He would know where equipment is available.

                Best of luck.

Forget the hydro design, it wont work for playing on the lake with a 15hp John motor. Find a CSR or DSR and have fun put what ever motor on it you want and be safe.

This one is for sale and the asking price is $650 with all the hardware you figure how to mount your motor and go play. Wear a life jacket so you don't drown if you roll it over. Its not that big of a deal if you do not plan on racing.

This boat is in Michigan so get a buddy with a pick up truck plan a road trip and have fun, no trailer needed just throw it in the back and tie it down so it doesn't end up under a tractor trailer

                        paleohydro,

I have a 12' 6" pickel fork hydro in Malabar, FL for sale for $300. It's an older boat, but is in great condition. I ran it in 250ccHydro. If interested, pictures can be sent.
