  • NBRA FIRST DAY RESULTS

the day started as the past two days, cloudy and cool, but like the racing action it heated up quickly and we were off for the first day of racing at beautiful Mountain Home, Ar. The NBRA championships began with a full field of boats in the EH, best news, 12 out on the course 12 back when done, as all drivers turned their attention to safe driving. Eric Van Over went out and took the first heat by sure will with a couple of gun jumpers thrown in. Brian Palmquist finished second in the heat and as the boats were coming back in, Eric had disappeared, to be found sitting in the tree canopy on the backstretch with a shear pin issue. Being ready for heat two they headed back out with Eric again out front only to lose the gear box and the chance at winning the first class of the 2014 NBRA Nationals. Brian, always in the hunt, never missed a beat and took the second heat after finishing second to Eric in the first. Kevin McAfee using shear will power, went to the second spot overall, with Eric finishing 3rd. Palmquist McAfee Van over AR came up next and you could say Braxton Miller two times as he took both heats, having to get around Austin Van Over, in a second What's up Doc entry. Ty Hebert, defending national champ finished 3rd. Miller Van Over Hebert Novice hydro came up next with two great heats of side by side racing in both heats, with the eventual winner Tab Hebert having no more them a two boat length lead in both heats. Fantastic job by these three young men, with Skyler Clark and Rhett Hebert finishing a close 3rd. T. Hebert Clark R. Hebert In the CMH race, a real donnybrook took place with Eric Van Over, Braxton Miller, trying for a second title, and Dan Koshka, all duking it out for the win. Eric was not going to be denied in the Cliff Johnson entry after the heartbreak, in EH earlier. He worked the 18H all thru the field to take overall, with Braxton and Koshka trailing. Van Over Miller Koshka Super EH led off the last flight with Lyle Mason the defending champ and 11 others hit the water. The action was fast and furious as Ralph Cook in the 2L took the first heat. Richard Baze driving a great race 2nd and Jeff Ruth in 3rd as the first heat ended. In the 2nd heat, Mason led them to the line, only to jump the gun, a repeat of the first heat occurred and Ralph took the overall. Cook Baze Jeff Ruth CSH, sent 12 out and how 12 came back defies logic with a fresh breeze blowing, the water roughing up, and big time racing, everyone ended up chasing guess who, Braxton Miller once again. Braxton went on to double up winning both heats to now have two championships. Bailey Owen stood it straight up, but was able to put it back on the water to take second overall with Herb Lamphier driving like the pro he is wound his way thru the field for an overall third. Miller Owen Lamphier DR came up with Alan Owen taking a great win in the first heat over Kevin McAfee and Tony Anderson. In the second heat, Owen and lead them up, only to be disqualified for a GJ, but McAfee not knowing, found Owen on the back stretch, drove deep in the corner on the bottom corner during lap two to take the lead and on to victory, with Anderson and Owen taking the podium finishes. All and all a great start to the 2014 Nationals, with a very nice crowd on the grounds. Thanks so much to Randy from BassCat Boats, the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce, all the volunteers and our race director, Rick Miller, jobs well done, Ray.
