  • APBA BoD Write-in Campaign

    APBA - BOD Write-in Campaign
To the membership of APBA: Due to an oversight in the nominating process for a position on the APBA Board of Directors, my name was omitted on this year’s ballot. For that reason, I would like to ask the membership for your support as a write – in candidate for the Board of Directors. I have also been nominated for the Council member-at-Large position. My preference is the BOD.

While at the Stock Outboard & J Category nationals last week, I found out that two key members of the current BOD will not be running for re-election this year. Jerry Davids and Mark Tate have decided, for personal reasons, they can no longer serve at this time. I’d like to thank both Jerry and Mark for all of their many contributions to APBA and look forward to their continued support in the future.

This, however, leaves a vacuous resource of experience and vision that the Board needs as we move forward with our work to grow and stabilize the organization. I would like to help fill this vacancy. It is vital to replace these members with an outboarder of similar mindset.

I served on the APBA BOD in 2017-2018 and was instrumental in the creation of the APBA Promotional Committee for the purpose of marketing our sport through Social media, Community involvement and the support of our driver schools nationwide. This project is still in its infancy and needs to be supported by the membership and the Board of Directors in order to succeed. At our Annual Convention / Meeting in Chicago, the Promotional Committee also hosted, for the first time, six Seminars for the benefit of the membership. These Seminars where very well attended and received by those in attendance and are now a staple of our annual convention. These seminars were also professionally videotaped and are available on the APBA website for all that could not attend or need a refresher.

This past year, I was appointed to fill a seat as an APBA Council Member-at –Large and maintained my position as Chairman of the APBA Steering Committee. However, due to Hurricane Florence last September, my participation had been limited. We had significant damage to our home and the Runnecraft building facility. It has been a great hindrance to our lives that hopefully will soon be resolved and I will be able to resume my work for APBA.
We all know, there is much left to do to insure the future of our sport. Much has changed recently within the structure and attitude of APBA. We are heading in the right direction and this is not the time to marginalize our progress. I am willing, desirous and believe capable to make this commitment to the future of APBA and would appreciate the support of the membership, in this bid as a Write – In candidate for the Board of Directors. Please pass the word and VOTE.

    Thank you all, John Runne

I need to make a correction on my post. I stated that my nomination was "omitted from the ballot", however, it was sent to the Nominating Committee for consideration to be placed on to the ballot for BoD, the nominating committee only submitted a request to place me on the ballot for Council at Large. After the deadline as printed in the Bylaws someone from the nominating committee did send in a request for me to be put onto the BoD ballot, unfortunately since the deadline had passed HQ could not honor that request.
I sincerely apologize for this error on my part. I did not mean to make it appear as though anyone other than myself is to blame.

        John Runne

            WRITE-IN JOHN RUNNE FOR BOD
Just as a reminder, the APBA Ballots will be coming out on or before August 20, 2019. This year the ballots are going to be sent by E-mail. Please remember to write-in John Runne for a position on the APBA Board of Directors. Also, pass the word to those that may not be aware of this write-in campaign.
Every vote counts. Often a candidate can win or lose an election by as little as 1 or 2 votes depending on how many candidates there are and how many positions are available. So please vote.
            Thank you,
            John Runne

Reminder, tomorrow the APBA ballots should go show up in your email. Please remember to write-in John Runne for the APBA Board of Directors. Write-in candidates historically do not fare well, however this year with the change to our voting through email, the possibilities have improved greatly for our membership. It offers more options and an easier process to get more members involved in APBA through voting.
Write-in John Runne for APBA BOD.
              Thank you, John

Our ballots were sent out yesterday and I’m sure many of you voted. However, if you haven’t voted yet, keep in mind, you are allowed by rule to vote for five candidates for the BOD. If you vote for five, you may actually help to put somebody onto the board that you don’t necessarily support. The best advice is to vote for only your first choice (write-in John Runne) and perhaps a second choice. After that the votes become diluted. I.e. voting for everyone is the same as voting for no one. Doing what is best for the future of APBA is the most important element in your decision.

Sorry about the double post. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice!

The fewer candidates you vote for, the more valuable your vote will be.
