I am looking at a 15 hp Mercury with a restrictor plate. I may have to part with my Mercury Hurricane with quickie lower unit to fund the adventure. I assume the Mercury has a higher degree of availability. Any thoughts?

Is your '' Mercury Hurricane'' the 20 cubic-inch Super10 Hurricane (KG-7H) or the 15 cubic-inch Rocket Hurricane (KG-4H)? Although both are obsolete for racing, either engine is OK for training purposes, but the smaller KG-4 will probably be more manageable for a tyro driver . . . and run more nearly like a modern Merc 15 A-Stock engine.

I have both. Based on side conversations, it looks like I should pick up a 1999 - 2006 Mercury 15 hp, then start conversion. Expanding the hobby!
