  • Yamato 80/102

My friend recently purchased a modified Yamato. How can we tell if it is an 80 or 102. There is no gas tank on it. There is however a 2 didgit number stamped on the back plate were the spark plugs are either a 14 or 15. I have a 102 stock that has a 14 or 15 also. What is the best way to determine if the modified engine is an 80 or 102? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks
We were hoping for a 102 so we could run it in the 500mod class.

Y80 has two water intake holes on the snout, 102 has one.

Thanks. Is there any other ways to distinguish between the 2?

Yes look at the cylinder head bolt pattern, the 80 has a slanted bolt pattern across each side of the spark plug as well as slanted pattern for the 2 bolts in the middle between cylinders. The 102 and 302 have no cross slant in the pattern. There are other differences.

If it looks like you're 102 that is what it is
          Hope so
