  • Indiana Outboard Association Drivers Reunion

June 4 & 5 of 2016 will mark the 30th year we have raced at Lake Claire in Huntington, IN. Throughout those 30 years there has been nearly 200 drivers compete at one time or another. Last year we saw many of our “old timer” friends stop by as spectators to enjoy the action so we have decided to make the IOA driver return a major event this year

Saturday evening, June 4th, will be a time for drivers of today to host the many drivers of days past. At the conclusion of Saturday’s races we will gather for an awesome Steve Roskowski Hog Roast and feast. All can help by contributing dish to share to compliment Steve’s pork. Most important is a time for stories and history of the many IOA races.

We need racers to help spread this word. Do you know racers of the past? Contact them with the invitation to join in this reunion. Boat racers of yesterday and today have all contributed to make this a great sport and we want to use this time to celebrate.

Sometimes names slip our minds but some of you might remember some of the divers that did battle at the Huntington race in1989.

In A Mod Hydro, Jim McDonough, Kevin Ladd, Shawn Brill, Steve Richardson, Karen Boyd, and Pat Reagin battled away.

In C Mod Hydro a field of Terry Witham, Brian Boyd, Steve Richardson, Reg Kennedy, John Sharp, Gary Hansel, Dave Helmig, Eugene Nowicki and Dave Mason locked horns putting on a great show.

E Mod Runabout participants included, Phil Lundman, Ed Weinert, Dale Ropp, Randy Terrill and Mike O’Brien.

E Mod Hydro was a great show with drivers Dave Brill, Joe Schwieckert, Bert Billings, Dave Robertson, Eugene Nowicki, Jim Dernoncourt , Jack Flanagan, Vance LaMee, Karl Szulczewski, and Eric VanOver.

Some of these drivers have now past away and we certainly miss them. Some are still racing. Some we would love to see and visit with about old times and who chopped who in that first turn at Huntington.

Do you know any of these drivers? Invite them to join us at this year’s reunion.

I'm pretty sure that John Wearly ( BUS) will be there. I'll try to track down Jack Gilbert - BMH.

The hog roast and carry-in is a go. Steve Roskowski has made the arrangements for the hog roaster. The roaster will be at work while we are racing on Saturday and the hog will be ready for the big party. Make sure you are inviting any old IOA racers you know and bring a dish to contribute for the feast. It will be great to see old friends and share stories.

Just a reminder that this year we are adding a pitch in on Saturday night in the pits. I have the pork in the fridge and the seasonings ready to make it great. Bring along a pass around dish and a healthy appetite!
